Someone somewhere in here wrote about a vague memory of the dead being in a movie in the sixties. Well, their vague memory became my vague memory....a couple flashes of the dead in golden tones of light, Jerry's dark beard. I think it was called Petulia with Julie Christie and George C. Scott. I looked it up. Thanks for another "flash from the past" as they used to say on KDIA-AM, the soul of the bay out of Oakland who just kept pumping it out and keeping it real. Dancin' in the Streets
chat room move?
Does anyone know anything about plans to move the chat room back to the main site? Chats are a bit few and far between in the experimental room, since the number of participants is very limited. Looking forward to the change, so everyone who wants to can yak.

The Dead make a few appearances. One trippy scene in a club of them playing Viola Lee. Another where Julie Christie is being loaded into an ambulance. Jerry in the backround with, I believe, his captain trips hat on. Jerry pre-beard looking like on the cover of the first official album. Couple more plus some good scenes of SF.
It used to run once or twice a year on tv. I would look every sunday in the tv guide section of the paper to see if it was playing that week. This was before cable so it wasnt to difficult to look up channels 2,4,5,7,9,11,13 and a few fuzzy UHF's. Havnt seen it in years now.

Phil and Friends
When I saw them play in Portland at the Crystal Ballroom at the end of January they played many of the same songs the Grateful Dead had played at the 1st show there 40 years ago, did the same thing the next night , repeated much of 2nd show.
Did I really read that Bob was playing with Phil for two nights? Nice if that would happen once in a while. I know lots of foks would like to see the remaining four get together. I think it is pretty incredible that there are four bands out touring this year, seeing how this thing continues to eveolve and spawn new sounds.

Sometimes the perceived ghosts are more than they appear. Often they are users who are logged in but are "marked as away," such as me earlier today. There does still seem to be a trivial ghost issue remaining, but I have found that if there is at least one user logged in and there are no posts for about four minutes then any ID's that are actually ghosts will get cleaned up.
Outside of that, Chat Room 2.0 (beta) seems pretty well behaved to me. Still have yet to find any evidence of someone being booted.
Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

I think this may enhance our security. I don't know if it works on ghosts, though.

Chat room actually has a variation of this, the whisper function. Perhaps one day we'll even all have holographic projection monitors so users can have the plastic bubble appear around them when using it. Thinking about how to code that as I type...

It was all good tonight, folks. The first set was absolutely smoking with a hot, snaky Speedway and a sizzling, dizzying Cumberland. Vocals were breathtaking at times with just a few weak spots (Easy Wind). Phil sang as good as I've ever heard him and was impressive on Peter and Operator.
In the second act, the whole set was a grin-inducing treat with a monster Sugar Mag, a tender Brokedown and perhaps the best version ever of Attics. Truckin was the perfect way to send us out the door.- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

what I used to do to solve this problem was 'preview comment' first, that also seemed to help avoid getting the mail sent to the spam filter for marye or other admins to allow in.
but yesterday even previewing didn't seem to work.

I emailed with Jonathan about this a bit; it seems to be a function of the servers in the company IT department having their clocks out of sync, but why this keeps happening remains a mystery. At the moment I'm finding the site essentially unusable as well and have multiple posts a go go.
On the subject of the chat room: Jonathan says that in theory they're holding off on the big changes here till after they've finished the migration to a new hosting service, but he'll see if he can figure out a way to move the chat room over here sooner.
Fingers crossed that I can get this to post...

and his multiple posting ablities! yer good, bob. so gigi, u finally caught that slip up, huh! i figured it out while i was listenig to 3-29 and reading your post about the show, i had downloaded both from archive, but for some reason beyond my grasp,3-30 disappers into the i-tunes netherworld, and i did this about halfadozen times trying different things with same results and again 10 minutes ago after ruffling your feathers:), still same result:(. i don't think THEY want me to hear that show....but why?? peace

I noticed yesterday that the experimental chat room is down, and is still down as of about noon edt today. Does anyone have any news about what's happened? Are they getting it ready to move back to the main site? Has it been abducted by aliens (with green cards, of course)? Did somebody walk by the cord and indavertently kick it out of the outlet? The possibilities fairly boggle the mind? Feel free to post your theories.
