Announcing July 1978: The Complete Recordings

We’re pleased to announce JULY 1978: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS, five incredible unreleased shows and the first official release from the long-lost tapes, recently returned to the Grateful Dead’s vault. Follow the Dead on a sonic journey through a superb selection of settings, an often epic adventure that finds them winning over Willie and Waylon fans in Kansas City, conjuring charisma in Omaha, and elevating the Red Rocks beyond their already spiritual planes. With five distinct performances painting the masterpiece of 1978, Betty Cantor-Jackson's always-pristine soundboard recordings, and the "hall-of-fame pedigree" of the Dead's first-ever shows at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre, this is one release that far exceeds excellence in music, sound quality, and rarity.

Limited to 15,000 individually numbered copies, JULY 1978: THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS includes Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO (7/1/78), St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul, MN (7/3/78), Omaha Civic Auditorium, Omaha, NE (7/5/78), and Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison CO (7/7/78 and 7/8/78) - all of the performances in this collection are drawn from the band’s master soundboard recordings, each newly mastered by Jeffrey Norman. The set also features original artwork by esteemed cartoonist Paul Pope (D.C. and Marvel comics) and in-depth liner notes written by Nick Meriwether (Grateful Dead Archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz), as well as a producer’s note from producer David Lemieux.

Due May 13th, we anticipate that this extraordinary box will sell out. Your best bet is to pre-order it now, then sit back, relax, and enjoy all the exclusive content we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks right here.

Looking for something a little more byte-sized? The collection will also be available for HD digital download in FLAC and ALAC, exclusively at dead.net, on release day.

July 1978: The Complete Recordings delivered today

Hi just an bit of info for people who were in a similar position to me: I ordered the Box Set (as part of a larger order) on 9-21-19, and it arrived today, so a little over 3 months later. I had written CS once (on November 26) and received a reply on December 3 from Warner Music Group Customer Service which read, in part:

Due to a complex warehouse move we now have a significant backlog of both customer inquiries and shipments, and as a result we haven’t been able to deliver at the level that we pride ourselves on.
For those waiting on their orders, while we wish we could give you an exact estimate as to when your order will ship, we are still awaiting the exact order status details that we urgently want to get to you.
We are putting 100% of our focus and dedication into a solution to this shipping delay, and are currently working with our warehouse partner to send out outstanding orders.
We wish we had been able to have communicated this to you sooner, but we had relied on assurances from our warehouse partner that they would be able to quickly resolve the backlog of orders, and they haven’t been able to honor this commitment. We must again apologize for this delay in reaching out to you.
While it is not our place to be making requests of you, we do hope that you will continue to be patient with us, as we work through these issues and work with our current partner to ship out your order as soon as possible.
We are genuinely sorry for the delay and inconvenience associated with your order, and we thank you for your patience and understanding to date.

HANG IN THERE FELLOW DEADHEADS!!!!!! AS ALWAYS IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT.
However, I don't see the Box Set currently listed for sale on the Dead's site right now either? My S/N was 091xx of 15000.
    Peace and Happy Hanukkah!

I feel for you, man. I made the mistake of ordering a simple CD (Terrapin Limited--3/15/90) for a Christmas gift some three weeks ago. Alas, it still sits in a "processing" status. Email requests have been answered with the same "robo-response" bullshit. And what makes it even more frustrating is dead.net had absolutely zero problems charging my credit card the day I ordered it...that portion of their logistical process seems to run flawlessly! And by comparison, I ordered other Christmas gifts from the Foo Fighters, Rush, and Pearl Jam websites the same day as my Dead order, and holy shit, like magic, all their merchandise arrived, as ordered, in less than a week.
This "we're moving our warehouse" excuse has grown pathetic and old...any logistical issues dead.net is having should be transparent to the customer! But allow me to end my complaints with a few suggestions, as I'm the kind of person who won't complain without bringing some solutions to the table....: (1) SHUT DOWN ALL SALES UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO COMPLETE AN ORDER! (2) DO NOT CHARGE THE CUSTOMER UNTIL AFTER A PRODUCT SHIPS!

Merry Christmas All---and Carlo, if you're really Jonesin for those 78 shows, PM me (if it works) I'm sure I have a copy's I could share

Wish I knew. I was hoping to confirm that the order will be recognized instead of forgotten. So I tried Dr. Rhino and got the same robo-response/apology as regular customer service email. These responses include a reminder that multiple inquiries may further delay an order...so handcuffed, LOL! But I can still play the shamisen and there are far worse things. It's all good.

I also ordered this box 7 weeks ago and still nada. I am waiting patiently because it will eventually ship. I will say it will ship on Dec. 22. What date do you think.

Also listened to the two Days on the Green Show over the weekend (10/9 &10/10/76--DP 33)-- gearing it up for more '76. Concur strongly! Great music from the Bicentenial Year! Wish those Who shows were available as well. Per Wiki, Wavy Gravy spoke at intermission to promote the '76 "Nobody for President" campaign. About sums up my enthusiasm for this year's race as well, but enough on that. Also, after all the E-72 talk and a recent second listen through this sublime tour, I gave some more listening time to 11/17/72 (DaP 11) and 3/26/72 (DaP 14.) I know the former was a Dick's Picks contender and is deserving of such IMHO. The latter has PigPen, of course, but somehow the setlist and show have never quite done it for me in the same way most '72 shows do. (Admittedly quite a high standard for that year.) Still great listening nonetheless. Keithfan--wish I had your reviews when I was going through E-72 recently. You music reviews are awesome and worthy of publication. Greatly appreciated. New box set coming at us in a month as well. Life is good. Hope all and their loved one's are well. Peace!

Just saw that out of the four available E72 shows that I don't yet have, the Luxemburg show has sold out. Damn. I've been meaning to let the wife know about the sale for a possible birthday gift, but first I will have to explain why I "had" to spend $70 on CDs even though I have a $130 box set on the way (after spending ridiculous money on 30 Trips--not to mention the DaP subscription). On a positive note, I listened to 4-29 for the first time ever tonight and it's a great show! They were truly on top of their game in Germany those three nights, even by E72 standards. So glad I risked the wife's wrath and picked this one up--tons of energy from start to finish. 5-7 on deck for tomorrow unless I decide to revisit 6-15-76 on the archive. I love the artwork for the E72 shows and hearing Phil mention that Europeans bring their dogs to restaurants and concerts makes this cover just exactly perfect. BTW, you know you're getting old when you wonder if Pig's Caution rap might be about erectile dysfunction. "All you need..."

Actually, the song "Strange Man" is on the live Jerry album called Don't Let Go, as someone helpfully pointed out to me the other day. A different gospel number - "Who Was John" - is on the K&D album. And I did not ask about the "breakup". That was someone else. I also presume they meant parting of the ways with the band, not each other. And we know that story. You wouldn't want to be the keyboardist in the Grateful Dead any more than the drummer in Spinal Tap. The position was cursed.

get in car, plan on 3/18/77. Find 10/10/76 first. I put it in, starting with Playin'. Something just doesn't flow. I need to change it. I put in disc three of 3/18/77 and have a magical experience. 3/18/77 is powerful stuff, my friends.

I wish I could watch it for the first time all over again. Truly brilliant. wharfratxx - nice call on the Closing of Winterland Johnny B. Goode. I opted to go with the video, and my only complaint is that the video editor kept moving off of Jerry when he was soloing - cardinal sin of rock 'n roll video editing. That second solo really cooked - I love the amount of distortion on Jerry's guitar. minas - about an hour or so. muleskinner - for '76, you may want to try Live At The Cow Palace. It hails from multi-track master tapes and has a lot of great stuff on it, including a 23 minute, uninterrupted Playing In The Band, my personal favorite post-hiatus version, that gets a little dark at points. Great versions of They Love Each Other, Wharf Rat, Mountain Dew, Eyes Of The World, plus any show with both Uncle John's Band and Sugar Magnolia is a treat. doceleven - always good to see you here, rock on brother Jimbo / Sixtus - can you guys use your pull with TPTB and get us a DaP 18 update! Thanks for the nice comments on the write-ups. I wasn't planning to do the whole tour, but I guess if folks are enjoying them, that's all the motivation I need.

Getting back to the subject of this comments thread. The dimensions of this box seem to be about the same as the May 1977 box. 5.25 x 7.50 per show container. About the size of a DVD "keep case." Is it about the same size? More colorful artwork in my opinion. I'm still sitting on the fence about this one, as I have yet to listen to the 1st 3 shows, audience recordings of July 1, 3, 5 via https://archive.org Earlier, I posted that I was only interested in the 7/8 show. I may have changed my mind.

that looks like the Mountain Dew logo but actually says Morning Dew. I remember wearing it to a Pink Floyd laser light show one time and the security guard thought I was wearing the soft drink shirt and made fun of it. I thought it was hilarious. Great shirt, almost no one realizes what it actually says which is kind of the point.

Hey KeithFan, mental mind-melding via cellular transcendent osmosis tells me DaP 18 will arrive neither early nor late, but exactly when it intends to arrive. Stealing the words from Gandalf the Grey clearly wields little in the way of actuality. But I would bet the next release announcement is near the precipice of falling into our inboxes. Perhaps JimBo can see the tealeaves more clearly than I. Knowing my luck it will happen and arrive during the several days we're in the hospital for baby #2 delivery (aka this Friday morning if nature observes Ingrid's intended "take 'er out" date). Of bigger concern is how the heck I am going to get home today; I foolishly drove myself into work in downtown Boston and will soon take to the interwebs and various directional apps to find me an unobscured way out - the marathon shuts this city down. BTW I am among those who is taking a liking to your E'72 write ups, they marry very nicely with a thorough listen. Sixtus

Anticipation awaits us allCentennial Celebration Red White And Blues Overload And the whistle is screaming. I posted this on the Dave's Picks Volume 17 page on April 15. It was never posted. Now when I try to post I am denied access. What gives ? Where is the DaPVol18 announcement? DaPVol14 was announced on April 11 2015. I bet it has something to do with this boxset not selling out. Why has this set not sold out. Three words TWO DISC SHOW And the three disc shows are short. Why should I pay the same price for 2hours of music as 3+ hours of music ?

Keep the reviews coming ... I am thoroughly enjoying! Beautiful spring day in Boston and I am lucky enough to have the day off from work as we celebrate Patriot's day In Massachusetts to commemorate the battle of Lexington and concord. However I foolishly procrastinated doing my taxes so am spending the day doing that. People in Massachusetts get an extra dat to do their taxes. I have been listening to 1980, 81 and 82 TTAS this weekend and am enjoying. I am still working through 30 trips box for the first time and finally made it to early 80's. Some quality stuff in early 80's ... Which was when I first saw dead ...1980 I think. Personally I prefer late 60's to early 70's dead but there are songs where Brent is perfect. Here on out I don't think I'll be buying any more 80's or 90's deadnet offerings as I think I have enough from over the years. But there is time where these yrs hit the spot.

Mr_Heartbreak - LMAO - total accident. The crazy thing is, Fire On The Mountain was the song I was in the middle of when I got out of the car at work today, and it's been in my head. I wonder if that had something to do with it? I love Morning Dew, especially the Wall Of Sound Bonus Disc version! Sixtus - Sad but true - I was aware of the Gandalf the Grey reference without your declaring its origin. Spent many summers reading the Lord Of The Rings. takimoto - isn't that the building that gets hi-jacked in Die Hard (The Takimoto Building?). Will keep 'em coming. scott1129 - I don't think an instant sellout was expected for this box set. My only knowledge of a box set selling out practically overnight was Europe '72 Complete (4 days rumor has it). I know the Winterland June 1977 and November 1973 box sets were available for years after their release, but I don't think they were limited to 15K. The closest comparison I believe, is the May 1977 Box Set, which also had 5 shows, and which was also limited to 15K - it did not sell out for at least 8 months after it's release (it was released June 11, 2013; people were still posting about receiving physical orders in mid-February of 2014).

Going back a few posts to the tip on trippy drone music. I picked up a few things over the last year or two in that general category. Check out the self titled album by Junip, really did it for me. Also, Currents by Tame Impala has a real cool flow, Sun Structures by the Temples has a kind of groovy retro psychedelia trippy drone sound, and for something with a little darker drone, Phosphene Dream by the Black Angels.

http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/daves-picks-volume-18-orpheum-theatre-s… Tell the folks back home this is the promised land callin' We're not only headed back to the Bay Area with the release of July 17, 1976, the 5th of a phenomenal six-night run at the Orpheum Theatre, but back to the basics - smaller venues, lighter loads (post-Wall of Sound) - and the results are electric! While the operations may have been stripped down, the Grateful Dead and their music were anything but. 7/17/76 packs plenty of surprises from the Chuck Berry bookends of the first set to the double encore featuring one the finest versions of "Not Fade Away" you're likely to hear, clocking in at almost 15 minutes. The hour-plus seamless second set jam includes a dream setlist, featuring such classics as "Comes A Time," "Eyes Of The World," "Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad," and a recurring "Other One" that takes us on some spectacular journeys. The venue's superior acoustics coupled with the band's tight intuitive playing lend to a warmer sound and plenty of golden moments. A short one, we've rounded Dave's Picks Volume 18 out with a handful of favorites from the previous night's first set, including a magical coupling of "The Music Never Stopped>Scarlet Begonias".

Been busy these last few days.. its boatin' season in the mountains and somehow over the winter I have acquired the mind and body of Homer Simpson. But the mind still tries and the body resists... Listening to great music though, more on that in a bit... Keithfan, my eight ball says we will get the DaP 18 announcement today. :D Love the wit, humor and trip reviews the last week or so. The Europe, Dark Star (and other) breakdowns are great to read and relive. Way to put it out there all of us to enjoy. KeithFan, OneMan and Seventy-Sixus have been especially gracious over the years. Last weekend (the 9th) it was 13 degrees when I woke up. Today after work it was 73. Spring has finally arrived in the mountains of the mid Atlantic states. Whoo Hoo. Off to see the mayhem on the new Dave's Picks thread. I hope its a show with a keyboardist I like or I'm gonna have to complain again. All Good Things in All Good Time.

I love all of the Black Angels albums! Here is a case of the younger generation, my son, turning me on to an awesome band. Great stuff. Sort of a new age Floyd. I have seen the Stones on every tour since '78 and musically they are better then ever. What used to be an 80 minute show now runs at least 2.5 hrs. I defy anyone to run for that amount of time and still sing like Mick. He is a physical wonder. While Keef does rest a bit on his laurels. Ronnie is phenomenal. And as far as the "show" itself, either indoors or outdoors, they are beyond compare. The only ones close are U2. Rock on

Good to know about the rest of the Black Angels albums - they are on my list to get, but I have been a little out of control with GD acquisitions over the last year which leaves little left over in the cd budget for other bands. Totally agree on the Rolling Stones, they kick ass live, put on a great, non-stop show. Saw them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse in 1989 and 1994. For the 1989 show I totally lucked out. They were originally set for one night, a Friday I think, and it sold out in minutes. I happened to be listening to the radio and they announced that a second date had been added for Thursday night, and the man on the scene at the Carrier Dome reported that there were no lines at the Carrier Dome to get tickets. Since I was living about two blocks away from the Carrier Dome at the time I raced up and got as many tickets as possible. As it turned out, they were fresh off a break for the first Carrier Dome show, the date that they added and which I got tickets for, and put on a great show. I think that was the tour with the giant, inflatable barfly chicks (Honky Tonk Women?) flanking the stage. Good stuff.

As I am trying to get caught back up, I read the article you linked to on the 12th. Great article, thanks for posting it. I have been studying the implications of the research, particularly the idea of a trip being the entrance point to ego death or ego reset. I have been wanting to discuss this stuff since last summer but it is hard to read everything and try to post ideas off of other's ideas, etc. Just wondering if there are others who enjoy discussing this stuff. Read an article or two on the topic (google, of course). I believe that Grateful Dead as part of its hidden key to knowledge is playing with these concepts. The term itself means to pass beyond the flesh life into a resurrected conciousness. A thought process on a higher plain. Reducing the focus on I and looking out at the whole picture. I think Grateful Dead even designed their concert structure based on these ancient ideas of life and death. The greatest drama story that all have to deal with. That is, as Jer said, "We have to get people from the sidewalk to outer space." Outer space, a higher plain and better conciousness view point. Yes, our medicine can cause issues when we don't help each other. I am sure everyone has had a scare or two. The band would start that second set and head to blitzville pretty quickly (usually after a late first set test) heading to a middle segment (later drums/space) that could cause you to question what is reality. That, what some call spooky moment, is designed to help kill that fear aspect to both weed out some (as in failing the test or possibly having "too much, too fast") and elevating others. To think on a new plane. To seek and search. I think there are many great stories within our group if we put our super brain together. I know, what the hell is this guy talking about. I am linking a nice little web page that a gentleman developed dissecting how Neal Peart's lyrics are a web of these thoughts. A web of interlinkages across time and songs that most cannot "see." His premise is built on the idea of ego death and how much of Rush's music wrestles with these ideas.. I hope some will read and ponder and decide if some of these thoughts are intruiging. I have more, but need to make sure this will post. http://www.egodeath.com/rushlyrics.htm

Very Happy GFar to see your little expose below and that you had picked up on the article I had posted in the 12th. That Rush article appears to be a doozy but I am going to dive in. And similarly, Jim, I applaud your reference to the microdose (which I had read somewhat recently somewhere else that this was now a thing of practice). This is a topic that fascinates me if you couldn't tell by my prodding of others to jump down the rabbit hole. I picked up another book that someone referenced shortly after my posting, of which I am about 1/2 way through at this point; the book is 'The Psychedelic Renaissance'. So far it has been a good exposition on the history, what all of these substances are and how they work, where they are found in culture, and the enormous amount of research that actually took place using them before they became illegal. And that the time is now to allow this research to continue - as there are myriad ways these substances are helping people. Other books I've read, however, delve much deeper into the potential linkages between all of these means to acquire this state of consciousness, Robert Monroe sort of leading that charge back in the 50's and 60's. Based on my own experiences, and reading a lot about others' experiences, I am thoroughly convinced - no - I KNOW - that these various means to attain higher consciousness, be it dreams, near death experiences, tripping, extreme meditation, out of body experiences, and death itself - that "place" where we all end up, it is the same place across the board. Just that different means to get you there give you varying glimpses, but it's ALL THE SAME DESTINATION. My reading and research has left me with this weird analogy in my mind of what this all is. The way I see it, ALL of CONCIOUSNESS, ALL of it - across time - is akin to one gigantic watercooler. Our BRAINS are the infinite spigots on that watercooler. They allow us to tap into it, but on a very limited level. When we have experiences that bring us up through that tap, we tend to see either bits and pieces of the full water cooler - or other times we are totally immersed in it. This could account for the dynamic but similar experiences people report when experiencing the watercooler phenomenon through the variety of means aforementioned. It also accounts for the 'oneness' that is often experienced. Robert Monroe delves far, far FAR into this and it touches my own intellect on so many levels it is impossible to ignore. While somewhat rudimentary, it works for me in terms of how I can possibly start to rationalize these truths. And I totally agree that the Grateful Dead figured this one out very early on, and then as GFar said they worked to recreate the set and setting for this experience for the entire team (aka the band, and us) every night. The fact that this band has essentially served as a guide and vehicle to reach this destination is frigging amazing and is an idea that is never lost on me. They have been along on every ride I've taken and I expect they will do so into the infinite future. But I also believe that our brains - since we only use ~10% - have the innate ability to bring us "there", we've just only FORGOTTEN over time. Once we realize again how to access this, the world will change forever - in a good way. It's also very easy to see how religion "sprang up" as a means to try to explain all of this - but that's a topic for a totally different day. GFar and Jim I could rap on this topic all day long. I am sure we are not the only ones either, and that is comforting and exciting at the same time. Sixtus

This box and the Orpheum show that get dumped on us at pretty much the same time are outstanding offerings.. I'm surprised this thread is so peaceful and quiet. The July 78 shows deserve a little hype. Its been a long time since this much material was made available that really did not circulate and hints of more to come, all Betty Boards noless. I'd much rather have small, high quality nuggets come periodically than a massive tidal wave dumped (and paid for) all at once. These Red Rocks shows are treasured, again.. worthy of some hype. I don't feel bad beating the drums and make some noise, besides.. its awfully quiet...

....don't fret Jim. The crickets will cease in three weeks or so. I wonder if Prince was at the '78 St. Paul show. I will be thinking that when I spin it for the first time...."Let's go crazy, let's get nuts."

don't know about everyone else, but i almost want to forget about this box until it gets here. Every time i arrive on this page i quickly scroll down to avoid the set lists and only briefly glanced at the updated artwork- i've been diving head first back into April 71 (thanks doc) and Europe shows (as is seemingly everyone else!) When this box arrives i'm going to take it nice and slow and enjoy every note! Ah man, what a time to be alive!

Wow, that was a good call on the new inventory. I picked up 5/4 and 5/10. I was looking to get 4/24 but it is sold out still. I have been eyeing these 3. I now have 12 or 13 of E72 and think that is probably enough .... I'm not a completist. I also picked up 78 box ....hadn't pulled trigger on that yet. I gotta a lot of listening to do. Still haven't finished TTAS yet. It's unbelievable all the stuff the dead put out. I think back to some of those low quality cassettes I used to have ... My times have changed. In listening to E72 this month I gotta say how continually I'm amazed at bill k the way he swings and drives the beat. The way he adapts and goes with flow. Certainly a different style of drummer than say Keith Moon or some of those big hitters but one of the best. Cheers

You're biting the hand that feeds you by taking issue with David Lemieux. He is single handedly responsible for convincing Rhino to release the E72 box set, and without it, they would never have adopted the present marketing paradigm, which provides us with an unprecedented amount of Dead music. Road Trips was Rhino's idea, and it failed. E72, Dave's Picks, and all of the Nuggets like Winterland '73 & '77, 30 Trips, and the Spring '90 box sets - all Dave pitching to Rhino, and it took him years to sell the E72 idea to them - written fact for anyone who's been tuned in. You owe the man an apology.

Just weighing in here, I've been obsessively checking availability on individual euro shows for a week now. These comment sections have got me on the 72 train, and in that time i've scored about half of these shows. 5/26 showed back up out of nowhere a couple days ago (its been totally out of stock for a decent while), and just yesterday I was able to snag 5/3 and 5/11(:D). Keithfan, you weren't joking about the addiction potential, i'm a bit embarrassed. I don't think i'll regret my show hoarding though, this era of dead was my was first love and to have it immortalized on disc will be all the more special down the road. Happy Friday deadland!

Yeah, you can't overstate the addiction potential. It creeps in slowly at first. You find yourself saying things like, "I didn't really need that new lawn mower, I just didn't want her to spend the money on a handbag". Then you kind of sense it has a hold of you, and you start rationalizing it with statements like, "You only live once, and I'm not getting any younger; I work hard and I deserve this". And then a few years in, you get to my stage, with denials like, "it's ouuurs preciouuussss, and we wants it"; this is the stage you want to be in. It's kind of like being a 3rd degree burn victim - you look the worst to those around you, but you just don't feel the pain anymore.

I bought the trunk when it came out. I'm single so I don't have to rationalize my purchases to anyone. I just think "All bills are paid or current" and "Retirement? I don't need no stinkin' retirement". @Fogle -congratulations on getting 5/3/72. One of the best in my opinion!

My saying is when it comes to spending money I don't have on things I don't need... "If not me, who. If not now, when." I'm always worth it! My father used to say, "If I'm going to be broke, I might as well be happy"

Count me in as another fan of 5/3...my favorite show of the tour (well, at least that's my opinion today). I missed out on the box set when it came out but 5/3 was the first individual show i bought from the tour.

Buy it, burn it, put it away safely and then in three years take it down, put it on ebay and compare it to your 401k. These sets are free if you look at the with the right set of eyes.

The box is great for the retirement plan. As you get older it's content that you crave and the E72 box is many days worth of content to keep you busy. Every time you listen to it again, it's paying it's dividend. Dragging out the book and the ephemera is like getting a stock split. In the end it will be part of the estate and probably appraised at a now unbelievable value.

..."this is the stage you want to be in" @KeithFan, I really lost it after reading all that, thanks for the assurance. On 5/3 yes; it was apparent upon first listen of the Other One that this was the one I wanted. Very exciting stuff...

5/3 was my first wife from the E72 box, but since then I have had many mistresses and some do a better job of comforting me in my old age. I like sandwiches, but for this tour the deep space jazzy sequences get me and I like them complete and not broken up. I'm not sure what my go to Other One is, perhaps 5/10?? For the Dark Stars, I simply cannot pick, but I can assure you my absolute favorite one is the one I just finished listening to. I bought the steamer trunk when it first came out, I remember the clusterflock of ordering and being really pissed that I got shut out, I responded almost immediately. Then I got an email from dead.net asking if I still wanted to play. Game on, but I was a little gun-shy and concerned about the cost - would I would really enjoy every single song of every single show? The setlists weren't that varried, had my hobby gone too far? I can honestly say I got more out of that box than I ever imagined. Kayak Guy is spot on with his insightful words. Its a mandatory retirement purchase, not to fund my Medicare supplemental insurance premiums, but to occupy my mind and provide inner peace. The best chuck of music I own, bar none. Good job all in gobbling this stuff up before it disappears. Its a drug in itself.
