One of the hottest shows from a very good year: 6-4-77!
This one exists only as a somewhat skeevy AUD. The setlist is primo and the playing is superb!
There's already a lot available offically from 1977, of course. But that should not deter Rhino from releasing this excellent show.

After the start of Road Trips Rhino officially announced that Dick's picks as a series is over... so don't be waiting for that #37 to come out any time soon. But if they can revive from the Vault series 18 years later we may not see the end of Dick's picks after all. My vote for a release single show would be 1-22-78. AWESOME. And Dick has commented on how much he loved that show. Don';t want to wait 18 years though. I might be dead.

this show is available for streaming from the archive site. not to offend anyone , but if we keep posting what releases we want to se,
then Rhino will eventually completley take it away , that means no streams at all ....
i don`t think anyone would like that ..

Re Archive.org policy
As stuman noted, there are many show SBDs no longer streamable from Archive due to "commercial release." Okay, fair enough, when in fact the entire show HAS been "commercially released." What troubles me, though, is when entire shows get disabled when in reality only certain tracks from that show have been "commercially released." A good case in point is the Fillmore East run in April 71. Four CDs of this five show run were released entitled Ladies and Gentlemen, The Grateful Dead. This is a release that I am happy to have, didn't think twice about paying for, and consider it well worth owning a copy of. However, most of the material from these shows is NOT on those CDs. Still, none of the SBDs from these shows are streamable.
Since Archive only offers SBDs via MP3 stream, and streams tracks instead of shows, can't the suppression (repression?) of "commercially released" material be limited to only those tracks which actually ARE "commercially released?" I would gladly suffer a little "setlist interruptus" if it meant that we could actually listen to the rest of the performances.
As I understand it, Archive's accessibility policy is driven by artist (or more correctly, IP owner's) dictate. So how about it, boys? Free the "unreleased" material!
Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.
Missing bits
one idea that I have been promoting from time to time (and in an unanswered message to David Lemieux last year) is for the 'missing bits' from released shows to be released as lossless downloads from this site,
- these bits have no real commercial value alone. They are unlikely ever to be a part of another official release if they were left off one already
- In the case of the some of the DPs it is only a few tracks
- releasing them could actually encourage people to buy the official release that includes the rest of the show
-and it would be a really cool thing to do and make a lot of people using this site very happy (and make up for the long gone but not entirely forgotten tapers section debacle)

1/22/78 is a great show and worthy of release. I believe that the first half of the second set only exists in AUD format, so that may prevent it from being officially released.
I agree with Cosmicbadger's point that for shows that were officially released Rhino should releasing for download the portion that was left on the cutting room floor so that we can get the entire show.
I don't share Stuman's problem with Rhino preventing the streaming of shows officially released. They have to make money. We all clamor for more official releases. We can't have it both ways, beg for shows AND when the show is released expect that we can still stream it.
Just my opinions.

Cal Expo. The Rain show, raining in Sacramento in the summer - never happen's unless there is magic in the air and song's to accompany the crazy finger's. Also Mountain Aire, the show that went into space literally during drum's . How much more magic and syncronicity could you hope for? I guess what I mean is it is a dead staple. Pure magic from the skies, just exactly perfect!

For all those lucky ones that were there, if you looked up to the skies during drums, you may have seen a whirling bird hovering deep into space up there. Guess who was looking down at their own show! They were and still are always an extension of their audience. pk

I was tired of my CDs one recent afternoon and decided to dig through the boxes of tapes in the closet for something 'new' to listen to. By chance, one of the shows I pulled out was SPAC, 6-28-88. Holy Crow! This led me to a rediscovery of the wonderful summer shows of 1988, which I believe are presently only represented by the Downhill From Here DVD (which is great). How about a release from this tour? Jerry was ON, and Bobby was extremely worked up, hell all the fellas were at full throttle. If not 6-28, I'd nominate 7-17 from the Greek.

Tongue firmly in cheek here, but how about a compilation of some of the mid-1971 material NOT featured on Dick's Picks 35?
A hypothetical tracklisting:
Disc 1 to feature the Playing>Dark Star>Bird Song sequence from Yale Bowl, the NFA sequence from that show, plus a few other bit & pieces. Disc 2 to be highlights of 8/23/71, including TOO from 8/23/71, plus maybe a bonus disc featuring highlights from 8/6/71 Set 1 and nuggets from the uncirculating show on 8/4/71??
Sound like a good idea...? ;-)
Summer 88
Down Hill from Here is actually summer 89. So there is absolutely NO cd or DVD release for this time period. Ummm... whats up with that?? My first years of collecting tapes was during this year. I remember alot of great shows. I know they don't hold up to old school stuff from the 70's or even fall 89-summer 90. But common. Deserves some kind of release. How bout a Road Trips summer 88??

Oxford Plains Speedway
I agree that summer of '88 was great. Particularly Oxford Plains Speedway on 7-2-88 to end the summer tour. I would love to see this as an official release.

Just listened to this show - streaming on the internet - boy, I´d love to have it on CD. Even though I´m a ´1969-man I´d say that this show is outstanding: crisp playing - MONSTER dark star!!!!!

Hey now fellow freaks. A dicks picks of Oxford Maine (both shows), perhaps the greatest New England performance of the 80's would be sweet,....but as a follow up,...the next 2 years at Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro (before the Patriots learned how to play football) 89/90 also are gems. 89 especially,...Jerry greets the audience !! at the start of the show with a clear "How ya doin !" What follows is awesome,..1:.Playin>Crazy>Wang Dang, We Can Run, Tenn, To Lay Me Down, Cass, Dont Ease. 2: Friend of the Devil (played fast tempo !!!) Truckin>He's Gone>Eyes,...drums/space.....Wheel,....Mr Fantasy/jude,......Sugar Mag (complete with the guys that sneaked in the gigantic amerikan flag to wave). Quinn.,......the light show was surreal. the chicks next to me (one is now next to me all the time) thought the images on the screen looked like paintings by a famous female I can't remember now,...I thought they looked like something else,....though not disimilar. Either way it was a mind altering experience,...whatever state of mind you were in.

watkins glen summer jam; july 27-28, 1973as you know,watkins glen was only suppose to be a saturday thing. but for those who could remember all the bands, including the dead, preformed a magic trick that friday nite. all the "soundchecks" magically turned into full fledge sets. and i do remember, the Dead did their sondcheck/set(s) right around midnite.and of course. it rained!! "believe it if you need it ; if you don't, just pass it on.."

1987/88
I don't think there has been any 87/88 releases except View from the vault4 . Time to fill in some gaps. One of my favorites from this era is 6-30-87 in Ontario Canada. The sound effects are all over this show, making for some real unique moments. I think a motorcycle was brought on stage during drums. Great Scarlet>Fire. This period of the dead had lots of good energy. At least a Road Trips release!

So with a wealth of new GD releases this year (big cheers!!) I'm wondering what happened to the solo Jerry stuff. There were a few good things going there. Pure Jerry? Great stuff. I noticed the Jerrygarcia.com website has not been updated for almost a year (Holiday cheer all year!) Anyone over this way know why the Jerry catalogue releases just stopped? 8/27/72 wouldn't be the worst release, but there is an A SBD already circulating, so I would put other shows in front of it. To begin with, how about 5/12/77? I know you have it in the vault as you have streamed part of the second set in the Taper's Section. The fact that no SBD is in circulation should be reason enough, but if it isn't, the show is a keeper from a killer era.

Thanks for the heads up!I don't have that one, but a few days later, 05/15/77 - good show, imho, but some fidelity issues with it -- just not perfect, and it is a soundboard. I'd love to grab a good audience recording somewhere, and I know I'd enjoy it, as I do with almost all of May `77 shows. Unforunately, I was not able to tour at that time, way back in the killer month of May `77.

There was one show I had on cassette, which I unfortunately lost a couple years back. I'm not positive of the exact date, but I know it was from spring 73 (May, I think). The setlist was Weather Report Suite prelude->Dark Star->Eyes Of The World->Playin In The Band. I know this is really vague, but I'd sure like to have that on an official release.
Beyond that, I would want to see more stuff from summer 67-69. Anything that's got the side one songs from Anthem Of The Sun would be welcomed by me.
Also, I'd really love if someday the original mix of Aoxomoxoa and the remix of Anthem Of The Sun (the one I know from my 80's era copy of the album) could be released. I know that's unlikely to ever happen, but it would be cool if they could at least some day be offered as downloads or something.
Oh, I forgot the Copenhagen DVD
Oh, and how about a DVD of the show in Copenhagen on the Europe 72 tour? I've read the entire concert exists in the vaults, but the band would have to work out a deal with the Danish TV people who shot the show for it to be released.
And one more thing, which again I'm sure is unlikely: the second set from Sept 11, 1974, Alexandra Palace, London. I know that three night run was covered in one of the Dick's Picks releases, but nothing from this amazing set has ever seen the light of day. It'd be nice if they could include the Phil And Ned portion of the show (which reminds me, how come so little has been released of Phil And Ned?! Is there some kind of rift between him and the band, or the recordings that exist not good enough quality to release?).

Glad to see the last couple Dick's Pick's are back to purchase in CD format! I have all of the GD releases, so I was happy to know my collection was complete ... Or was it? I realized that I'm still missing "Rare Cuts & Oddities." Why can't we buy this anymore? The GD store is out of stock, I can't find it used online anywhere ... I couldn't even find one on ... ebay. (shudder) Please, PLEASE, can anyone hook me up out there???
Oh, and the main reason for this post was to request more from 1967, please! I haven't seen much from this year yet, and I'm interested to hear what was happening between "Stealin'" and "The Other One." Thanks much!
I second that - something from '67
It's the only year (apart from some of the '80s and '90s) that isn't represented in any live release (apart from the odd song here and there). I know the sound quality might not be great, but surely a 2 disc compilation of key tracks from throughout the year would be feasible. It's a pretty crucial year to have so underrepresented. How did they develop from the garage-blues band of Birth of the Dead to the psychedelic sojourners of Two from the Vault?
Also, there doesn't seem to have been much (or anything?) from '70 released since DP8. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just going off the top of my head.
