My 2 cents, while the Grand Canyon was quite international,
my wife and I really enjoyed heading north to the variety of delights in Utah. Bryce Canyon was transportive, so magical, much more intimate, sparce crowds, and you can wander down into these towering psyhcedelic spires morning or night. Zion and Arches were spectacular as well. Again quieter, but with astounding and spiritual vistas. We definately want to return to those Utah sites/sights again. Those Utah parks were intimate and wonderful. Teachers open the door, but you enter by yourself.

You might look at books like Route 66 Backroads by Hinckley, Bowers et al. or 20 West by Mac Nelson for tips. I for one would visit the Blue Hole in New Mexico.

Thanks for the input! Some very helpful advice! My primary focus is a spiritual journey (using a very broad definition of that word). The Hopi's Third Mesa is an intriguing suggestion! Do you know where I could find more info on this?

Wow, 18 days. Wish I had the time to do nothing with my child while on an odyssey cross-country. My advice would be getting off the interstate for certain selections of your tour. The Interstate has ruined our experience of America. Don't make advance reservations at chain motels. Some times that night's rate without a room sold is quite cheap. The Grand Canyon is nice, but I have seen it many times and I would go to the Hopi's Third Mesa, which is a sacred community of elders near Flagstaff. Sometimes it's not a good time to visit for white people. In the same way, I would think you should decide what themes are important to you and your son and plan accordingly. Are you more predisposed to Mount Rushmore or Devil's Tower (sacred to American Indians)? San Francisco is not cheap and I would find a place to stay near the city and explore by day. Motel 6 is up to $120 in SF. Unless money is no object, I would make a bee-line home and get in the way of whatever is interesting. Escalante and Capital Reef and the other "Grand Circle" of National Parks is always worthy! Good luck! Whatever happens is the perfect thing. With that attitude no bumming is allowed!

Thanks. The strange thing is I don't recall ever having a Dead or JGB album or tape called Reflections. Hmmm??? Uh-Oh ... Could I be having another 1 of them senior moments? LOL Well now ya all know I'm 1 of them older Dead Heads. Too much weed. LOL I need to see the cover of Reflections. Is it on this site some where? Probably, yes? I just need to learn how to find it. Well ... I found it. It still isn't making any major bells go off. However, all the other song titles look familiar too. In fact I was wondering about many of those other songs too. But I just can't remember having this. But I must have had it. Well, once again, thanks much.

you'll probably have better luck in the Tape Trading Topic. You might also check the Vineyard to see if it's being vined.

I think I figured out when I had it. This is going to really date me, but what the heck. Does anyone else remember 8 Track tapes? I think I had Reflections on an 8 track tape. That's why I couldn't remember it. I got rid of all my 8 Track Tapes so long ago I can't even remember when it was.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong area before. Can anyone tell me what show it was I heard recently where they are doing the Other One and then in a jam part the start riffing on Uncle Johns Band? They don't play UJB they just jam out the lyrics basically as a solo. I heard it on Grateful Dead radio but my receiver was not showing the date or place for some reason. Any info would be great as I would love to have this version of Other One.

contend that Phil & Bobby will link up along with John Kadlichek (guitar), Joe Russo (drums) ,and Melvin Seals (keys) for several shows. I don't know if this is accurate or not. Just a (ugly) rumor at this point. ;o} The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

I'm looking to get more info about an LP i have in my collection, i can't seem to find evidence of it's official existence anywhere online. It's a 2 record LP, front cover is labelled "Uncle John's Band, Orpheum Theater, Boston, Mass." back shows "Uncle John's Band featuring Jerry G. Orpheum Theater, Boston Mass. Dec. 1976" track listing: side one: how sweet it is to be loved by you, they loved each other. side two: that is what love will make you do, simple twist of fate. side three: i second that emotion, gommorah side four: the harder they come. I'm curious just how rare this print is, if it's a bootleg, who did the cover art, etc. Basically anything i can find out about it.

I once heard an audio recording of a Robert Hunter poem (I think the title was Unicorn Dream). .....the tree of letters, and the blood of poets drying on the steps. ....a knowing that you know, do you know it? And what is it that you know? I've really searched hard on the web and cannot find it. Can you help. Thanks, Anarchist

sounds like a bootleg of a Jerry Band show from the setlist. If you were to post in the Tapers section or the Vineyard, someone could probably tell you the exact show based on the setlist and the month.

I'm not familiar with that one, and don't have time to go look through all of Hunter's poetry to find it; the trouble with Web searches is that if you're one word off... Anybody?

Thank you! that looks like the right show, i'm guessing the record is a bootleg, and appears to have the wrong date. I was wondering why i couldn't find it anywhere online, even on Ebay or google. I didn't realize there were bootlegs out on vinyl, found this in a record store about 15-20 yrs ago, and just came across it again going through old boxes of stuff.

I am a DJ on 89.1FM KHOL Jackson Hole Community Radio and currently host an all Blues show but after many years want to change formats to all Dead and Zappa. They are cool with that, but they want me to secure permission w/ The Grateful Dead powers that be to play non commercial boots. Who or where do I go to for that info?? You can email me at lonesomejohnnie@hotmail.com with any insight or help. Some folks trust in reason, others trust in might, I don't trust in nothing, but I know it'll turn out right. Does anyone remember a Hunter song that was published with an accompanying illustration in the GD Almanac in the mid/early 90s but not performed by the Dead? (Probably around '93-'95.) It included a line that went something like "Just flew in from Cupertino, flying on a rake, time to (something) and paint the rattlesnake." (Or something similar.) There was also a line about sitting on the sidewalk, with an accompanying annotation that this practice was illegal in Berkeley. The illustration I believe included a picture of a character riding a rake like a broom. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

is the name of the tune that you are inquiring about. It was in the "endless summer 1994" issue of the late great GD almanac. Would love to see that come back, I did get a copy last year, saying that they were comming back, so we would have something to hold as we read, but I have not received one this year, yet...:) Yes, you are correct, st. dilbert riding a rake, with a rattlesnake wrapped around it, it goes like this: the wind is in the forty and the cane is in the break. Just flew in from cupertino flying on a rake. Got to hose the house down and paint the rattlesnake, pacify the dogs of war and decorate the cake. there are 4 or so more verses with the ending verse sporting the line about sitting on the sidewalk, which it does state that it is illegal in Berkeley. Hope this helps some. I think you can look at these old almanacs on line, at least you use to be able to look up back issues. Check out this site, or maybe serch for GD Almanac? Good luck....

Well, it has finally happened, I may have to take a drug test for a job I applied for. In all my years, I only took one drug test in my life, and that was in the military back in 75. Back then, they couldn't detect weed in your pee, so I was safe. Now, of course, they can so if anyone knows of a good reliable product that works to mask the cannabis in my urine, I would greatly appreciate any info anyone has on this subject. I have searched the net and came up with lots of products, just don't know if they "really" do what they claim. I have been unemployed for almost a year and I really need to pass this test, and I don't have the necessary 4 weeks to get clean on my own, seeings how the test will be within the next 2 weeks. Please, any info would be great, especially one that really works. Thanks in advance for any help. ;)

these days a lot of places test for clarifiers so to speak. test pure is a decent product, pricey, as they all seem to be, but if u follow directions it should work. but like i said, i think tests are not so easy to "study" for. good luck nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile

I have passed every test i had to take about 8 of them. My method is to drink ALOT of water about a gallon and a half a day. I know most people say this doesn't work but it never failed me.I am not sure how good this is i usually pee so much it hurts a little. I even smoked the night before a test and passed. Remember that toxins are stored in body fat so try not to exercise or exert yourself to keep from burning fat. GOOD LUCK

I am 420 friendly and there is a chance I might have to take a drug test. I want to prepare myself for that should the time come to take a test. Does anyone have any suggestions of a product that could help mask the agent? I have been drinking lots of water. A previous post stated that the toxins are stored in the body fat. But what I am unclear of is why would a person not want to exercise to burn of the fat and thus the toxin? I would think that would be good to burn off the fat. I am not overweight at all and have a high metabolism. Thanks for any help that can be provided. Rock on!

The toxins cling to the body fat so when you burn of the fat the toxins are released int your system. Thus showing up on a urine test. You probably could burn off all the fat that the toxins are stored in, but there is no telling how long that could take. At some drug stores they sell home testing kits. Maybe you should test yourself before you get tested.

any out there? I just had to move and had to break a lease due to family emergency, I forfeited the deposit which I understand, having broken the lease, but I paid boocoo $ to get the heating propane put in my name, paid all the deposits, and purchased fuel, now that I have left, the real estate co refuses to refund the balance of propane that I paid for that is left in the tank. The propane co can put a lock on the tank and refund my money, but that will leave the real estate co with a hundred $ bill or more that will have to be paid before the gas is turned back on. Propane co says I can do this, real estate co says I can't. So here I am with an open account with over 100$ in propane that the real estate co is basically saying that they can keep it with out legal obligation to give me a refund. This doesn't sound legal to me, but I'm not a lawyer. Any body else have or had a similar situation? any advice?

any local lawyer group that does pro bono assistance for tenants? Judging by the propane tank, you're in the country, so I dunno. Since lawyers around here cost upwards of $200 an hour, going that route might not be cost-effective, so I'd look hard for your local legal aid.

Hello,I need some help with finding the name of the Font type used in the wording of the band name “Grateful Dead” off the “Steal your face” album. I just got a new boat, I would like to use that exact font for the lettering in the name of the boat “Ship of fools” to be installed on the back transom. Also part of the plan is to omit the “O” in the “OF” part in the name “Ship Of Fools” and replace it with a SYF Sticker. The lettering colors will also be Blue and Red exactly like the sticker! I got the plan, just need the help to execute it…Can anyone help??? Thank you http://public.fotki.com/araslich/concerts/

You need a device capable of burning dvd's, but such a device is in most newer computers. And if your computer has a dvd burner, it should also have the software to do so. Older cd burners can NOT copy dvd's, unfortunately.********************************** Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. Was anyone at these shows? What did you think of the place? The sound? The vibe? Where was shakedown? How was it? I've read the setlists but was just wondering how people felt about the venue. I loved that venue for shows but unfortunately did not see the GD there due to being only 4 years old the last time they played the place. Any info would be much appreciated!
