My first New Year's Eve, and still one of the most memorable, most hilarious time I ever had. Bill Graham looked as surprized as everybody else when they started hauling him across the ceiling to the stage. Jesus, that acid was amazing, though I was a tad freaked out by the end of the first set. Recovered during intermission, then laughed the rest of the night. Whew! Still gets the hairs on the back of my neck standing up!

The joy that started on Dec. 15 continued through the end of the year. If you were there, or if you've heard the tape, you'll recall how fun it was to hear "U.S. Blues" at the end of set I. We were very close, 3rd or 4th row...I vividly remember Jerry's voice trembling with so much emotion when he sang the line "Give me five, I'm still alive."

I attended this whole run- 4 shows in all, and my only west coast shows. It's all now a blur, and I only have two sets (1st night's first set which is great, and the following night's second set w/the Scarlet-Fire). I remember thinking," I had no idea San Francisco was this friggin' cold." It was cold and damp every day...Finally, I distinctly recall a point in the David Crosby solo acoustic set when, in between songs, Crosby went on this long anti-drug rant...Seriously...he went on and on...I think this sort of 'community service' was tied to his probation from getting busted the upteenth time for coke...This whole run is lively, but I still think that 12/15/86 is the show to listen to from this period (that Touch and Candyman are mindblowing). Peace...ps: Phil started this whole run off by saying," Oh, so you want to polka." and then they went into a sweet Playin'- jam- Bertha...

Happy new year people. The things we remember 32 years later. While looking for a 2nd ticket for my girlfriend and I some guy offered his Buick Sky lark. I recall think are you kidding me? We had 1 ticket actually she did, she went threw the mail order. We had decided to give up our one and only ticket to some guy begging her to sell it to him. Long story short she and I had been together a few years and had decided to see others because she was on the east coast myself mostly on west coast. We had parted ways in the fall due to the distance between us. So when I ran into her before the show on the 27th we got back together and had A GREAT week together staying at the Apple inn in Oakland. Back to this night we told the guy we would sell it to him because the shows was going to start soon, The Crosby portion . After selling it we decided to head back to the Apple Inn when Dread John " who I have heard has passed away" found us walking towards the Bart station asked if we had tickets of course we did not at this point. He told us to stay rite where we were he would be rite back. Waiting for 15 minutes or so he comes out throws 2 back stage all access passes on us and In we went. Having been to most every show for last few years to this point and having many back stage passes we never went back stage , we wanted to be with our peers in the crowd and in the halls like we always did. Looking back threw my dead diary I have 3 other back stage passes never went back there. Little bit on Dread John he for sure was same as all of us lived hard life on the road and spent many a day dependent on things like so many of us. I heard few years back he couldn't take it any longer and now is with our creator the one and only big man in the sky. Love to all and a good year to come. Sorry for rambling .

I have been on a new years run of listening to shows was at. Decided to post my thoughts from the archive's Reviewer: jjg4762 - ★favorite★favorite★favorite★favorite★favorite - December 26, 2015 Subject: This show is getting hotter The sound on this copy is above average for sure. It sounds just like being there. 5 stars to me. At this time in my touring days this show is prime time. Having now been on tour for 3 full years every show in between this and Ventura 1982. At this point I knew almost everyone on tour in one way or another. When you put that together along with the Kaiser's being our home base it made this show threw the roof with tour heads energy.

My friend Bob & I did security for this show. In return we got to get in free & received a New Years Security tee shirt. We had a great view from the mixing area. We did one more New Years Show working security for Bill Graham Productions. The December 31, 1987 I got to meet Bill Graham briefly after the show.

My first New Year's Eve concert with the Grateful Dead! I loved the Henry J. Kaiser! The Neville Brothers were great --- these shows were my first time seeing them perform.
