Where's all of the set lists from these early shows? If you're gonna post the date, post the set. Thanks Dead Head People who run this. Great site, by the way.

Nobody remembers it, nobody can be found who attended. But people were there, at Magoo's Pizza Parlor on May 5, 1965 to see a most historical affair: The Warlocks in action!! If I could build a time machine, I'd love to transport myself back to this time and place. Of course I'd bring a digital recorder and a digital camera to catch all the action!

The only people that know what exactly took place at Magoo's are the people that were there. I would love to go back in time and document this historic occasion as well.

look up @ the top-it says who attended this show. I know of 2 others who aren't on this website & have asked them also, will get back later, when I get more info. All she's said so far is the band carried their own equipment & it was a small place, but fun......Gypsy Cowgirl

Maybe they wanted to be like Miles and thought if they copped his back to the audience attitude when playing they were beyond cool like him but more likely they all needed to look at Bill so they could all keep in time together. Not that I wasn't waiting at the bus stop. Union Square poetry readings & the Spaghetti Factory, North Beach. I first saw the Dead in June of '66. Dino Valenti was playing guitar & singing at the Factory in '65 and I saw Dylan in the city in '65. By late '67 maybe, before they became known, Santana was living up the street from me in Eureka Valley where I grew up in the city. They had a baby grand in the dining room. The Dead played Dancin in the Streets a lot those early years. Plus everything Gypsy mentioned above. And more. Further

Recently, a whole collection of previous unseen and extremely rare Acid Test posters and handbills has been discovered, including a couple pieces of original artwork by Jerry Garcia. Included in this collection was an original hand-colored handbill for the Palo Alto Big Beat Acid Test, as well as a Poster for Mother McCree's at the Tangent in 1964, a Poster for the Warlocks first paid gig at Magoo's on May 5, 1965, a poster for the Warlocks fourth performance at Frenchy's on June 18, 1965, Phil Lesh's first gig. A set of tickets for the In Room in Belmont on Sept. 1, 1965 and a poster for the first Acid Test at the Spread in Santa Cruz on Nov. 27, 1965 as well as a Fillmore Acid Test handbill and a handbill for Carthay studios in Los Angeles on March 19, 1966. I had a friend who has a copy on vinyl . Im trying to track him down for a copy, all i remember is it was an audience recording and not the best but worth having

My friend Diggs was taking Drum lessons from Bill at Swains Music in P.A. and he forced me to go with him. We were too young to get in and had to listen outside on Santa Cruz Ave. The first of LOTS OF SHOWS which I was lucky enough to see & hear.Years later I met Dave Prudell who used to feed the Band at St. Michaels alley for free in Palo Alto.

I can just see it now.. kiked back with a phatty slice of pizza,a cold rootbeer,while listenin to a new potato cabose,or viola lee blues..Heck,I'm still having trouble remembering setlists from the 90's!..The long strange trip leaves the station!

Dude ... this was the VERY FIRST show! Do you really think that in May of 1965, there was somebody who KNEW that, come2013, somebody was gonna want to KNOW what went down in that Pizzeria? Nobody took notes back then, man - they just DANCED! For the sake of completeness, even if we can't list the songs played, the date and venue of every show ABSOLUTELY belong here!

If someone's got this show on vinyl I will get on my knees and beg and plead for them to get it on the net

As a musician, I can say that I recorded nearly all of my shows and, at the least, always kept records of the set lists. Back in the mid-60s, maybe musicians weren't wired that way. Bootleg recordings were nothing unheard of at the time. People were recording Charlie Parker back in the 1940s. I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a recording. Rock was still relatively new and quite exciting at that time.

In the early days pretty much nobody kept track and there are very few recordings until Bear started or unless Pranksters have vids of event, etc. Back when I was tape trading I only had a small number of regular sources and by and by the material was great. Most 80s audience were nightmares unless someone worked "Charlie Miller type magic" on them but sadly I hadn't heard of him then. Other Audience tapes I had from 70s was much better but not always certain of the specifics except to say complete amateur copies never were in wide circulation. But back to 60s, my collection pre-69 was much fewer with incomplete shows and the shows could be labeled wrong or not at all. I think 67 is earliest that I could fill a small case with tapes. I look back and I think anything 65 or 66 that I had has been released by now. So many blank spots in recordings and information and if its unlisted I'll keep but I won't label incorrectly just because I have suspicion. More releases from every era. Hell, I'd even buy a compilation of 95 "best of" but for 95 I'd rather most all just put out as free sbds. But I'm behind. No computer worthy of music right now and CD traders are few. I wouldn't mind flash drives or bigger ones to trade but I'm unaware of any device that can play those on not be a computer...I've tried on different devices with plug in but so far either my few drives aren't in a readable format or the devices I've tried were broke. More recordings I say. Allow greater access to download SBDs, FM, matrix if the shows have been rejected for release. I'd gladly pay something to help support the vault and band and employees. Given me/us so much over the years. Ps. Thanks to the "mystery" person who allowed stuff to slip out. I think Jerry wouldve approved unless they tried to profit at the guys expense.

i was playing the pins in the back and these hippies came in with a lot of patchouli oil in the air and unplugged my machine with a bunch of free games on it. they paid me back many years later with a bunch of free tickets and such. A friend, Vince ended up playing drums for them as I guess Kreutzman must have been late for the first show or some such. I never remember smelling patchouli oil again without remembering passing those fine long dress dressed chicks that afternoon. peace and love..
