MAN, wish i was born earlier
this is my hometown, but i was only 4 years old then. i had heard about this show, though, from older folks who were there.
nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile
I was there
This was the first Dead show I attended, I was a Freak back then and hitched a ride from Greentown PA. I lived with Pink Floyd fan and nobody else was into The Dead. I was one great show. After the show I wandered back stage and there was no security. I got into a conversation with Pig Pen and he offered me a ride to the Hwy on ramp on the Greyhound. I was the last on the bus and the first off a mile or so later. What a great night for a 17 year old back then.

I wasn't born yet but this
I wasn't born yet but this was my mothers first show of many. She always told me how great it was seeing old Pigpen playin the blues.
Funny
I just listened to this show for the first time and couldn't help but think what the Nuns at the Catholic Youth Center thought when the boys opened the show with Casey Jones driving that train...high on cocain. LOL there must have been a few Hail Marys said that night.
and yet...
as Hunter once said, everybody hears that line. Nobody hears "Casey Jones, you better watch your speed..."
My first show.
My first show and the 1 & only time I saw the Pigpen line-up. The New Riders opened up.....Jerry on pedal steel & I believe Spencer Dryden played drums.
My first Grateful Dead show
New Riders of The Purple Sage opened up, Jerry on pedal steel & I think Spencer Dryden on drums.
My first Grateful Dead show
.......and my only show by the original 5. I'm glad that I got to see a show with Pigpen at least once.
