I used to see the meetings going during intermission, and it always brought a sense of normalcy and purpose beyond what I would see away from the stage. I loved the music, but didnt care that much, was rather terrified really of the drug-alchohol inspired serenity that I was witnessing,. Wasn't sure I fit in, but seeing you guys always reminded me that the dead were about the music and not just a party- the community was much more than far away eyes and tantric twirling, By my 20th show I stopped hanging in the lots and went straight to the line. I think you guys helped me see that, so thanks!

For those of you who have the full-legth vid of Alpine, '89 ...3rd show -- I'm the guy with the faded bells, perma-fried hairdo and the long-sleeved blue and white striped mork-from-ork shirt who didn't realize what a sun ticket was and wandered back to his perch just out of the rain. Well... since I used to jam with my 12er on the Haight & Fisherman's Wharf back in the 90s, I'll leave this link here. It's a freebie HQ mp3 first release that is kind of tricky to get at by way of the usual hurdles: http://sio.midco.net/m3zh3p/modada/track_01.mp3 http://sio.midco.net/m3zh3p/modada/track_02.mp3 (Welcome to my perception of Shakedown Street... lol) http://sio.midco.net/m3zh3p/modada/track_03.mp3 Love you all. You're my real life family and will always be. C* aka Spider (from Haight Street)

Zelda here. Still truckin with the recovery thing. I'll have nine months on the 1st of March. I still struggle though. Recently I went over to a family member's house and they were smoking ganja, I nearly couldn't resist. I'm feeling good about my recovery otherwise. Working on my fourth step, seems like it is taking forever. A little side note. I recently posted a listing in Seattle on Craigslist. I was looking for a band to play with. I am a harmonica player. I was on the movie tiedyed. But that doesn't mean much, a lot of people were, LOL. Anyway, I was the harmonica player featured that they kept going back to throughout the movie. I was only seventeen then and at my first Dead show. Anyway, someone got back with me. Cee Cee James from the Cee Cee James band. I had two auditions with her. She liked my stuff so she said she wanted to work with me. However, a couple days later there was a serious family emergency and she decided she needed to be dedicated to that. What a bummer. They were perfect. Her band had just got back from the Memphis blue competition they were invited to. They were real good. Check em out at www.ceeceejames.com. Well, I guess it's back to the drawing board. I've listed another posting and hope that someone gets in touch with me. I was looking into joining the American Federation of Musicians Union in Seattle. Looks like they might be able to help me get in touch with other musicians and mayber some representation. Peace, Zelda

Didn't know that existed! Somehow I doubt that in today's economy they're going to get 56K for it though.

As someone sober for many years to me it's as the saying goes. To thine own self be true. If it makes your life better by stopping taking the most controlling substance this worlds known I say it is up to you. If you no your doing what's rite then your doing what's rite. Because it makes you more content when you put your head on the pillow at night with a clear conscious . For me I can't take any chances with any substances at all which includes booze for that matter also.

Where is everyone meeting up for this? If nothing is setup, would anyone like to meet? I'd suggest we meet down under the pier, or by its pylons. We are Wharf Rats after all...9:30am daily? I don't see any other Barcelo Riviera Maya AA.

A Grateful morning to all. I was wondering if there are still meetings at half time of Dead &Co. shows?

I had just checked in at the Wharf Rat table at the last show in Chula Vista. The guy that was sitting behind the booth said a girl had noticed the table on her way to the bar. She said I've only been sober a week! Glad you were here to remind me........ Don't know if she lasted through the show but ya never know, sometimes sobriety is measured in minutes....

I'll check back here to let you know if I win the ticket lottery. I'll need a meeting. Years ago while staying in Playa Del Carmen I was walking down a side street and found an Alano Club. It was in Spanish which I;m not towell versed but I understood what they were sayun'. Traeted me like a long lost brother.

Never saw the band. By the time I became an avid listener it was too late. Thus, not really a Wharf Rat as such... Just wanted to share that my listening to masses of Grateful Dead is a huge part of my sobriety. Wishing you all a blessed and sober day.

but I think you'll find they're still at shows and you'd be welcome. People with a better clue, please say more.

Hi-Ho friends and neighbors! CMHAZ -GoodAZDead here from Phoenix. Just celebrated 33 years of Drink & Dope-Free sobriety. It's never easy, but it does get easier. "Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right..."

Now more than ever I love Wharf Rat. Each time I listen to it I learn somethung new about the song. What’s amazing about Wharf Rat is the community and deep sense of connection it has with so many people. When you are feeling low we are here for you. My favorite part- I’ll get up and fly away!

Hello Friends- Big week/weekend ahead for Bay Area and was able at last minute to pic up a tix for final show: Now the big question: Will there be any W.Rats meeting up in person prior to or during the night of music? If so how would a person in recovery meet up? Have to say watching the thinking process prior to the show: IE: stay sober no matter what, etc. Thx for reply. Best- windysuisun
