And what a stunner it was, that show at the Boise State University Pavilion in Boise, ID on September 2, 1983. Dave's Picks Volume 27 contains every stitch of music from this mid-80s show (our first in this series), one that's as good as any other in Grateful Dead history. When the Dead were on, they were ON! Straight out the gate with a definitive take on the old standard "Wang Dang Doodle," the band swiftly switches back to a setlist of yore, firing off 70s staples like "Jack Straw" and "Brown-Eyed Women" and wrapping things up with a terrific trio of "Big Railroad Blues"/"Looks Like Rain"/"Deal" (don't you let that epic guitar solo go down without you). Primed for the second set, they tackle the complexities of "Help>Slipknot!>Franklin's" with heart and ease. It's clear there will be no stopping their flow - Bobby and Brent hanging in for a fantastic pre-Drums "Jam" and Jerry and Bobby in the zone on a not-to-be-missed melodic "Space." Not a skipper in the whole lot!

Dave's Picks Volume 27 has been mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman and it is limited to 18,000 individually-numbered copies*.

major drag about Curveball

Not a Phish fanatic, but I can't imagine the "WTF" of the cancellation. Imagine going to Watkins Glen in 73, being totally "psyched" and "ready" (wink wink), and then being told "never mind". ouch. a major event in Phish pholklore, I'm sure. sorry, y'all Phishers. I sympathize. there _are_ worse fates. I just got done reading a book about the American Revolution. Being part of that would have been a triple bummer. or even a whole new category of "bummer." when Veneta 92 got cancelled in 92, I recall that people showed anyway and had a party. well, onward. here's to everyone having a glorious day today, and weekend.

Da27... and latter day dead

well it sounds like 83 to me, but seriously i found it very entertaining for a few listens and i'll be going back to it for sure, its second set is actually very similar to my second show hampton 83 with its helpslipfrank, throwin stones, GDTRFB and black peter although my favorite eras are during the single drummer years i have been enjoying a lot of later stuff recently, i did not get boxilla, but my coworker started getting 30 trips shows on ebay, at first he planned on stopping at 1975 but guess what he got them all, i have had chance to make mp3s of all of them more or less in chronological order, except 87 and 88 and they're forthcoming, i really enjoyed the brent shows, cincinatti 85 is the only 30 trips show i attended, and i have been kinda blown away by the vince (and bruce) shows, previously i had spent very little time listening to vince shows, they have some very different jams than i am used to, and vince played more piano sounds than i expected after bruce left, of course all this latter day lsitening will make the PNW shows all the more awesome im sure

Just when I thought that Anthem would be my reissue of the year, just saw a three cd set upcoming of the peerless and unique Skip Spence solo album Oar!I guess that many of you, not having been around 50 years ago have no idea what Im talking about, but Simonrob will know and maybe Daverock, but who else? This is a real deal Im not feckin with you. Till the end of this generation, Skippy lives!
