We're doing things a bit different for this one - two complete shows on four CDs, bringing you one of Dave's faves and what very well could have been one of Dick's Picks. Yep, back-to-back nights from peak era 80s - the furthest we've gone into the decade, in fact - that will bring you to joyful tears. DAVE’S PICKS VOLUME 36: HARTFORD CIVIC CENTER, HARTFORD, CT (3/26/87 & 3/27/87) delivers emotional takes on tracks like "Row Jimmy," "Black Peter," Uncle John's Band," and serves up a hit list of covers ("In The Midnight Hour," "Good Lovin'," "Desolation Row," "Promised Land," "Little Red Rooster," "Morning Dew," Johnny B. Goode") that'll have you hootin' and hollerin'.

Limited to 22,000 numbered copies, this one has been mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman and is guaranteed to sell out.

Oh, by the way. It took me quite a many years to appreciate 'row Jimmy' but now that I have heard this one, I know for sure I'm in love. Dave's picks sure keep's the love flowing for jerry and the band.

Several of us here in the North Eastern U.S.A. have not received Dave's36 yet either. As of 10/30/20 UPS tracking says that it was transferred to the U.S.P.S. but U.S.P.S. says that only a shipping label was created on 10/30. It is thought that there is some sort of warehouse problem involved. Who knows? Since we over here usually receive these discs sooner than our European friends -- we can not complain. I routinely read about slow shipping to Europe on these forums, and, of course those exorbitant postal fees! Take care.

Well, it hasn't been a long wait for me yet. Only about three weeks to Sweden and I just found out it departed a transfer airport in Stockholm last Saturday afternoon. It is not searchable in the Swedish Postnord system yet and it's not registered for Custom Service charges either. Hopefully I'll get it by next week. Unless it's waiting for me at a UPS handout place. Last time that happened I didn't got a message from them or from UPS. They expected eachother to get in touch with me.

    Well, I'll check that tomorrow.

Hope everyone else will get theirs before too long!

FYI - Neil Young Archives (Warner Beos) is now taking pre-orders for Young’s Archive 2, to be released in March 2021. It covers the prime period of his career (1972-1976), and 10 CDs,131 tracks, plus plus plus. Two editions - Deluxe ($$$) and Retail ($$).
A lot of money to shell out, but I always enjoy these career retrospectives. I had ordered the Retail version last week, decided over the weekend to go for the Burrito Deluxe. I’m hoping to bury the charge under all my wife’s Christmas shopping, because the Dave’s subscription is always her annual eye roll. If not, I’ll do the manly thing and email her when she is at work! “By the way...”

I love the crowd noise also! It isn’t too much noise that gets to the point that it overshadows the music; it’s just right. I also agree that they should do the matrices more in these releases. It really does add a lot to the listening experience. Moments in this DaP like the Bird Song, He’s Gone, Morning Dew, etc. showcase this perfectly. I also hope for a Vince era release this year. 9/20/91 Dave?

Perhaps I will get my old GD New Years tickets out and wallow in them.. but one way or another we have put this shit hole of a year behind us. If we aren't suffering from covid itself, we are suffering from covid fatigue. Be safe everyone and be careful. One way or another, ..... Those of us that are tight should share in some zoom celebratory excursions on the 31st.

This is the reason I had to stop subscribing, I got a '76 show and an '83 show in the same subscription. Then a 14-disc '76 box-set and an '84 DaP and now this '87 DaP is just too much. You can't POSSIBLY be out of great gigs from '68 or '69 or '70 or '71 or '72 or '73 or '74 or '77 or '78 or '79 or '80 or '82 or '85 or '90, can you? That 08-21-68 / 08-22-68 would have been pretty good...

I love shows from this time period - since we're talking fun facts, one thing i wanted to mention was the Dave's Picks from 4/22/78 (DaP 15 i think) is one of my favorite releases of all time and i play it several times a year. Looking forward to a great 2021 (god knows we need it).

One of the best blues/soul singers to come out of England. Recent clip of him on television - from Ready Steady Go! 1966 - sharing a stage with no less than Otis Redding, doing "Shake", is worth a look too.

In fact I have just watched it again on you tube. Hard to believe that popular music used to be THAT good.

I do hope that the correct 1/4th purchase price that I paid for my Daves Picks 2020 subscription will be displayed for customs purposes on my posted Dave's Picks 36, and not the inflated version that has been posted on this site.
I will be none too happy to have to 'fork out' for taxes that I am not liable for.

Naturally there are two prices for each Dave's Picks: 1/4 of the subscription price (less international shipping) and the a la carte price. I have never paid much attention to the stated value on the customs declaration as here, in the Netherlands, I don't get robbed by the customs as the price threshold for duty/tax is high enough that Dave's Picks get through without a problem. I am pretty sure that the shipping system isn't smart enough to know whether you are a subscriber or not. I have a suspicion that the a la carte price is what will be used but I am not certain. If that is the case then it may be an expensive pick for you and maybe for me too, for the first time.

It is hard to believe that music by burden and the animals were and are still that great. I was playing see-see while walking sarge last night and could not help but yell out "See, see see rider"along with burden. I just dont understand why it's not played on the radio at all. Shipping notice received.

Garcia Saunders Volume 15, May 21, 1971. To be released December 2020....finally something with heart and (true) electrical intentions. The vibrations and echoing magic of Garcia, with Crosby and Fierro, resonates through the river of blood that makes us human. And in that river we dance with our soul. Into the LIGHT.

What a wonderful essay... haven't listened yet but what a sweet reminiscence from Dave's first show. As for 38, apparently it's "a nod to a show that Dick was particularly high on." For whatever that's worth.

...except that Dick was particularly high on almost every show, Dave too come to think of it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Speaking of high (or hot).. I am trying my hand at fermenting my first hot sauce. Hoping for something similar too Sriracha. I plucked about four bushes of ripe and red serrano's, a healthy amount of cayenne and some Hungarian hot for good measure.. chopped em all up and started the fermentation process. I never wear gloves when I cut up peppers, but I think I overdid it this time. My hands are on fire. I have a gallon of finely chopped pepper puree. My hands are pinkish and just a tad swollen.

A half hour later after washing my hands with soap and water a few times..., if I simply touch my face or arms it immediately burns. Too funny.

There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town.

Tried my hand at fermenting apples this year too.. I have three gallons that should be ready to drink in about a week. So far so good.

It would be sweet to have the OU show in its entirety, but 5/17 of the show already got jigsawed into Road Trips 1.2. And while you're at it Dave, why not go all out and do a 7 show Box from 10/7 - 10/16/77 🤪

BobT steered me towards the '74 Cow Palace Show. The most I listen to it the more I like it. I had forgotten just how hot the China Rider was for example.. well, China Rider on. Like 10/11/77.. I wish it was released as a full show. Glad they grew out of that phase.

With the new address, so hopefully no worries with this one, which would be ironic given the multitude of issues on the last six orders, I think. Also looking forward to American Beauty's arrival from Mr Bezos. Had 12+ hours of driving over the weekend, and after a failed experiment in listening to a bunch of Jack Straws from the Dave's Picks series and went 15 4/22/78, 26 11/17/71, 11 11/17/72, 9 5/14/74, 25 11/6/77, and started 21 4/2/73 when exhaustion set in. No fault of the Dead's, had been up til at least 1 every night for almost a month packing some stuff after work, and had gone the previous night until 4, then up at 7:45 to get the rest loaded with some good friends from church and my brother. Finished about 1, ate, showered, hit the road and a bad time for an Evolution of Jack Straw Seminar. My wife encouraged me to listen to something lively, so I blasted some Fall 1969 Who SBDs, first Ottawa, then Fillmore East, then Hull, the night after Leeds. That got me through to Delaware, where we bedded down for the night. The next morning we began our journey to the Boston area hoping to arrive no later than 1. All sorts of fun, but innocuous and interesting things happened with separations and the joys and terrors of a caravan with a 26' UHaul driven by your half-crazy brother in the middle. And for that leg of the journey I chose the Allman Brothers Band Fillmore West 1/29-31/71, Fillmore East 3/13/71, then 8/17/71 Boston Commons. We were way late, and stressed, but Duane and Dickey and Berry kept me fairly grounded.

I look forward to this Hartford release (went through there and New Haven along the way, and even fortuitously stumbled upon a sign for Dillon Stadium at the exit I chose for its Wendy's), but the best thing about it to me is the standard it sets that a release can be a four disc show, so 5/26/73 and 6/10/73 could get the treatment. Though, that also means no Plangentizing of those. But I do look forward to a different sound than I usually listen to, but I still haven't finished DaP 35. I didn't find what I did listen to that compelling. DaP 31 I listened to that one time, and listened to Jack a Roe and the Franklin's and Jam a couple other times, but that's about it. DaP 32 didn't move me brightly either. So, it's not just Brent era complaining. This year I loved Jai Alai, but have loved that show for years, and found this to be a huge sonic upgrade, and probably the best sounding Wall of Sound release that is a 2 track source. DaP 33 I loved the Might As Well, Jack Straw, Dire Wolf opening, the Let It Grow was great, but I don't find that on repeat much either. DaP 37 Spring '78 leaves me a bit nonplussed, too. Hoping the announcement for 38 is of a big one. I've already bought the subscription, but I'm hoping for a little more bang for those bucks next year. And if it's a 1972 box, they can take that money quite willingly.

But one thing that is setup is the stereo, so when American Beauty and that wonderful Port Chester Dark Star> Beautiful Jam> Wharf Rat> Dark Star arrive, I shall play it and hopefully enjoy what is forecast to be our first snow up here. And I will give Hartford a listen if it arrives as scheduled, hoping for some Dead rejuvenation in my spirit!

I once was making extremely spicy tacos and cut up jalapenos and habaneros without gloves. I washed my hands 23 times, took a shower, and went to take my contacts out and immediately felt burning on my eye and just slept with them in that night. I later bought a jar of habanero ground up seasoning that required no touching.

But I have never heard of swollen hands like that, yikes! That may be an allergic reaction more than just a spice thing. I'm not sure you want to eat something that did that to the outside of your body,

The slight swelling and redness is gone. It can't be allergic reaction, or I would be dead by now. It was simply chopping copious amounts of really hot peppers. I mean a lot.

No. Older. Everything makes me feel older.

I have seen this.. it's a documentary. I saw it on YouTube or Amazon Prime, forget which. Pretty cool extreme sports flick with a deadhead twist.. crazies. surfing, skiing, kayaking.. It's pretty cool and yes, Bill is in it.

Ha.. just found it on ESPN myself. This is the one I was speaking of. Now.. which version of Fire on the Mountain is it? I know this version.... It's been released. 77? Cornell??

For what it's worth.. its been about 24 hours. The burn/tingle in my hands is just now going away. I felt a little like Homer after the psychedelic chili cookoff.

Edit: I might have conflated this with a couple other sportsumentaries I saw the same night.. I am not sure there is kayaking in it for example.. Not sure Norway skiing is in it either.. what was that other film I saw the same night? It was insane.
