    Grateful Dead Hour no. 633

    Week of November 6, 2000

Grateful Dead 12/26/69 McFarlin Auditorium, SMU, Dallas TX
    NEW SPEEDWAY BOOGIE
    LOVELIGHT

Ladies and Gentlemen... The Grateful Dead (April 1971)
    GOOD LOVIN' (excerpt)

Interview: David Lemieux and Jeffrey Norman

Ladies and Gentlemen... The Grateful Dead (April 1971)
    I'M A KING BEE

Interview: David Lemieux and Jeffrey Norman

"You just had it done to you by the Grateful Dead, ladies and gentlemen, the Grateful Dead!" the promoter says at the end of the 12/26/69 show. Well said, says I!

Part 2 of this program is part 1 of an interview with archivist David Lemieux and engineer Jeffrey Norman, who collaborated to produce the wonderful 4-CD set Ladies and Gentlemen... The Grateful Dead. Taken from the band's last run at the Fillmore East in April 1971, this collection includes one of my all-time favorite "Dark Stars," which you'll hear in next week's Grateful Dead Hour post here on DeadNet.

Unfortunately, because they came directly from the vault I am not in a position to put them into circulation. Anyone who recorded the marathon off the air is welcome to do so, however!

Love those early New Speedways . . .and that Lovelight rocks! Then this GD Hour really builds momentum . . . one of the finest. And David, whatcha gonna do with those killer May 3, 1977 tapes you have? I sure enjoyed hearing them on the KPFA fundraiser . . .now I long to hear them again.
