• The Tickets I Didn't Get
This what MusicToday originally offered me when I hit the Buy link at the stroke of Noon EST. Of course I hit continue. Then I had the audacity to attempt to change the shipping method, and that's when the server errors started. Needless to say after the 45 minutes it took to get their server to agree to interact with my browser again, all tickets were long gone, never mind the halfway decent floor seats I thought I had. If you can't make it out that's MSG, Section 11, Row J, seats 9 and 10. I'm so happy MusicToday chose to rely on Microsoft technologies for their server application. Just another example of their commitment to robust, stable, scalable, and standards-compliant software. I hope everyone who didn't get screwed because of inherent bias in the underlying technology has a good time at the show. Wish I coulda been there.

    Nose Bleed In Worcester
I'm pretty much feeling like all that have posted B 4 me. The error message was almost a constant and when you did get in any attempt to change anything, even the position on my chair, resulted in getting booted out. Finally got thru at 1:15 and ended up paying $100 for seat far up in the rafters. It is deplorable how many tickets ended up on Ebay, Stub Hub and other ticket resale sites. But alas I did get my seat and maybe being so high up will take me closer to our beloved Mr. Garcia.

    Ebay Tickets
I tried but to no avail - did MO instead. Checking Ebay - there's over 200 listings so far for tickets... F*ckers! I SAY EVERYONE SHOULD REPLY TO ALL THE EBAY LISTINGS THAT HAVE "OR BEST OFFER" AND BID $5 FOR THEM. If everyone did we would be a bit of pain the their ass just like they are to us.

mail order is the only way
the dead should revert back to mail order. the tickets were special, you really had to be up on your sh**t to get them, and the effing on-line scalpers wouldn't waste their time with such a tedious process leaving real fans with the tickets they deserve. snail mail may have an archaic ring to it, but after what i dealt with today, it would be a pleasure to revert back to old ways.

colossal fail on the Dead's part here...come on, hundreds and hundreds of bands have done successful pre-sales that went off without a hitch and instead they go with Music Today??? I get that Ticketmaster may be a big evil empire...but atl east their products dont crash out !

This presale sucked! I waited for hours for the countdown thinking maybe a dream would come true and I could see my much anticipated first ever Dead show up close. Only to be let down by the outstanding Microsoft technology!!! I'm still going, but very bummed out about the floor seat loss:( Peace, Love, and Great F*cking Music!

I tried and tried to get into the server to purchase Shoreline tickets to no avail. Had to leave at 12:30 EST to bring my daughter to the dentist. Just got back two hours later and the tickets are all gone. What a sad day :(

I thought maybe it was just me. What an effing disaster. The Dead organization should be ashamed of themselves. Why go with a second rate vendor? As an earlier posting stated, ticketmaster may suck in their own (and many other) ways, but at least they get the job done. This was a flat-out disgrace....

All I wanted was Shoreline Lawn tickets. After over an hour of getting error messages, I finally got on the ticket site. Oh boy! I even had tickets ordered, but the site gave me no place to put my city and state. 2 hours later, and the tickets were gone. What a disaster for the Dead!

Don't forget this is the pre-sale. Still plenty of tickets out there to be had with the general sale, I'm sure. I've had more than a couple of instances of finding better tickets with the general sale than I got with the presale, so it isn't like all the good seats are gone. Or at least that's my story for the day....

I had already good seats to MSG. Then there was not delivery option outside usa or canada and I couldnt finish my order. When I finally found a friend of a friend living in usa whose address i could use the tickets were gone. I was timed out. Then no tickets left. That was it. It was so close. Think of it: no delivery outside usa. No trip to US for us then.

Terrible. Worst ticket buying experience ever. Slow response, inflexible (I couldnt just change the # of tix in the pull down...seems like that got an error message too!), lousy layout. In this day and age, inexcusable.......

That was the worst experience with technology I've had. I felt like I was back in '89 with a f**kn dial-up 28.8 modem. The pages took forever to load, and when they did the action buttons never showed up! Or if they did they were just the dreaded red x. I had to float around where I thought the action button should be until the cursor changed, then just guessed that it was the "continue" button. Finally got tix for DC but damn. Learn from this guys. Don't do it again!

Go check ebay and the other ticket sites online all of those assholes bought up OUR tickets and are doubling the price back to us. This is outrageous, actual fans that have money in hand can't get tickets for the shows they want to go to, and have to settle for changing travel plans. Why couldn't we all just went and camped and bought in person. Make sure to give your love to the stores on ebay, because god forbid they miss out on making a damn dollar. ~Forever Grateful to be High on the Hill

I've had the same 'timeout' problem on a lot of non-Dead shows too... you get in early, snag some great seats and then get stuck in the log jam of fans (and probably scalpers) and by the time the server catches up with you.. .those 10th row center seats are long gone. I agree with angelfaedarkstar...lets go back to the days of camping out at the box office...that was way more fun, almost like going to the show...ok.. .maybe not... but still a good time!

Sorry to hear of the many dilemmas of the fans on hear. It is a shame to know that the ticket agencies seem to be fat with tickets while the fan that should be going to the show is left with stories and complaints about a system that certainly had its shortcomings. I discovered operator error on the address issue someone earlier complained about, as that was confusing, but it was my fault, but learned quickly to just be patient and it would step me through the process, but very slowly. Did not gain access until 12:30, but once in, it was just a matter of patience. I am glad I was able to help out some friends who were having difficulty as I was able to get three pairs of tickets, all on lower level, no floor seats were available at 12:30 for Greensboro show, and made their day. They, too, had visited ticket agency sites and saw what you all saw, tickets going for $250/each for sections one closer than my worst pair. It is truly sad. Just glad I could help some friends out. Good luck to all with the second release of tickets and hope to see y'all at the show!

Been a Dead fan forever and seeing the band in concert since 73...and can honestly say this was the worst experience trying to get tickets. $100/per is outrageous, and am not sure if I got them or not. I was using 2 different computers for different shows and one gave me an email saying the purchase for the Albany show went thru while the other was telling me they were still processing (after an hour) my order for the Albany show, while trying to get tickets for a Denver show. For these prices somebody needs to get it together. If I get tickets or not this will be my last show regardless..$100/per is NOT what I thought the Dead were about..what's next touring with Brittany Spears then maybe they can get $125/per..always thought it was about the music.

These ticket prices are OUTRAGEOUS! Especially for the venue that the Chicago show is in (huge INDOOR arena-really crappy sound unless you are in the 1st 10 rows). Then they want a $7 service charge per ticket & parking will be $20 (parking is not listed here, but I know from previous experience that I will be charged)...what is the benefit of not going through ticket master again?

I had section 104 (middle of floor), row 1 for the saturday night in philly and the fucking system released my tickets because it took 36 minutes to navigate the screens. I ended up getting 1st level above the floor for friday night and 2nd level up from the floor for saturday night. The whole thing took an hour. Totally retarded setup - why the f*ck did you have to pick a seating level for shows that had 1 ticket price ? "Best available" sh1theads !! Musictoday is obviously not capable of handling a sale that big. I've never had a complaint about their mule pre-sales but they really screwed this one up. F you musictoday !

What a disaster, after having all the tickets for the shows I wanted to attend and got to the checkout, it stated that I had to many tickets(only 2 per show by the way) and had to go back, so I cancelled my last order which was for Buffalo and thought I would order separate, I went back to checkout and it said my time had expired and I lost everything and had to re-do with expensive seats, so now after my budget has been doubled and a few things around my computer broken from RAGE I am totally excited, going to the first 4 shows, Buffalo and the 2 Jersey shows. Being from Canada with exchange rate and two tickets for each show my total was $1700 CDN YIKES.......I will say that this will be worth it and the UNIVERSE had a good laugh at all of us today as well as Jerry, What a Long Strange Trip this will be***** David Hickey Paiste Gongs and Quartz Crystal Bowls Sound Journey www.crystaljourney.ca

If you want seats in section 2 or any of the side close sections, you will have to shell out $760. for a pair. That's just disgusting!! I'm glad I didn't get tickets. After 30 years of shows and this is how it all ends for me. What a shame the dead have chosen to market themselves to the rich. Isn't that who they have always been against. So I break down and try to buy a couple of Albany tics. After 2 hours of frustration and failure, I get to the check out, am asked for my city and state, but there is no box to fill in and no list to choose from. By the time the site finally renders, hours later (I did actually have to go back to work, were our e-commerce sites all work), my order is no longer valid. Finally got tickets -- worse sets for the same high price -- but rather than being excited, I taste nothing but bile. Truly a sad end to what should have been great joy, and I see I am not alone. ...you can tell: Ticketmaster would've worked better. These Musicsomeday people didn't have the computer power to support the user demand, leading to all the server timeouts, pages loading incorrectly etc. Probably would've been better off not even trying to get tickets today - and for what mine cost and where they are I'm starting to feel ripped off. Merely being in front of the stage doesn't justify $100 a ticket. That's a mighty expensive nosebleed. Well, johnman's right. I shouldn't be such a whiner, there are people that would be grateful to be able to go at all. What a drag! Being from the Bay Area I have obviousley been spoiled with the abundance of dead shows here at home over the last 40 years, that being said only 1 home-town show? a pre-sale that was a train wreck for everyone. Lack of ticket availability for the entire world of deadheads. Overpriced tickets starting at about $477.00 for upper reserved ticketsthat were available on internet sites before the presale even started. The actual face value tickets for the shows thru the dead an average of $100.00 before bamboozling fees. That is not what the band I grew up with. They do not treat there fans that way,or at least they did not use to.What happened to our once beloved hero's? Where is the Workingman's Dead during this time of economic hardship for so many people in this country as well as in the rest of the world. For those of you who suffered through this pre-sale fiasco and did not receive tickets, hopefully the general public on sale will work a little better for the few remaining tickets. For those of you lucky enough to get tickets through the presale, enjoy the shows.

AND I SAY AGAIN (my comments from the "Spring Tour" forum -I find it necessary to post here as well) . . . I am truly disappointed with the way the pre-sale went down. I would have thought that if anyone could have provided a fair ticket-buying experience it would have been the Dead "organization" and their ticket vendor. Turns out they can't; like every other shyster promoter out there, my experience today was actually the worst experience I've EVER HAD in buying pre-sale tickets. I've had much better experiences through Ticketmaster and Live Nation (who knows . . . they're probably both at the root of this debacle anyway) and that ain't sayin' much. Take a gander at how many tickets are being sold by scalpers already! How does that happen?! It happens because the "safeguards" that were in place did nothing but safeguard the STATUS-QUO, thereby allowing every scalper out there to get the lions' share of every good seat available, and freezing out the rest of us! Have The Dead forgot those of us deadheads who have been with them since the beginning?! It sure feels like it. I had an incredibly frustrating time in my attempt to purchase tickets - I just wanted ONE ticket for each of the couple of shows I wanted to attend - and it turned out way too confusing, convoluted, and skewed to make it worth the $115 cost for a seat and a date I really didn't want and to which it took an hour-plus to finally achieve the end result [without being bumped out, frozen out, or otherwise timed-out as I had throughout] before I was able to complete my purchase. My first Dead show was 33 years ago. If today was any indication of how the future of the Dead's ticket distribution will look like, then this May 2009 will be it for me. It's just not worth the aggravation, cost, and disappointment, where the system allows those who are honest fans to get beaten over by scalpers once again. There . . . I got that off my chest. PS:Thanks for so many incredible shows! Disillusioned words like bullets bark as human gods aim for their mark make everything from toy guns that spark to flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark it's easy to see without looking too far not much is really sacred. I'm not so sure it was entirely Musictoday's fault. I have bought presale tickets through them before with no problem for other bands. What was different about this is that all of the presales for this tour were up on the same day. This was the most poorly managed operation I have ever experienced. After 2 hours in the "waiting area", I was offered 2 tickets in the first tier, possibly furthest from the stage for Hartford. This was for the more expensive tickets. No thanks. Where's the $60 tickets, in the bathrooms? I'll wait for the regular sale and if I can't get floor, forget it. I saw my first show 25+ years ago, bought tickets for face value on the street. If this is what "The Dead" has come to, I don't need to relive my youth. I've seen plenty of excellent, current bands playing relevent music, touring with professionally managed operations, for much less than 60 or 100 bucks lately. Oh, and its spelled Worchester, since you may have to find it on a map or bus schedule or something.

Totally misleading. They had two price levels for Chicago. I selected the more expensive tix, what they called FI and they landed up charging me over $100 for upper bowl all away across from the stage. I emailed Music Today right after but have not heard back. I am hope they make this right. I would hate to complain to the BBB.

I think the problem might be that the secondary market crashed the sysytem. I have seen this before with other bands / sports events. The scalpers and secondary market companies get around the sysytem and crash the site. They scoop up all the tix then sell them for CRAZY prices. I checked the secondary sites last night and they were loaded with tickets....average prices for Worcester shows were $144 - $675. Sorry.....but I just can't see Deadheads plunking that kind of money down for shows. My thought is that they will sell some....and get stuck with tons. If that does happen then closer to the date of the show the prices will drop...sometimes even below FV. I have a policy of only paying face or less for event tickets. So I plan to give my luck a shot one more time and if I strike out...then I play the wait and see come April game. Never thought I'd see the day that Red Sox tix were easier to score than Dead tix!!! Have a Grateful night!!

Call me cheap but there is no way I would pay 100+ dollars to see the band without Jerry. I'm sure the shows will be cool but after paying max of $40 for tix to see the Grateful Dead over the years there is no way I'm spending that much for shows now. I wonder if Phil, Bob, Billy and Mickey even have a say in how much tix cost for these shows. I hope all the people that got tickets really enjoy the shows because for the price you should get a happy ending and no I dont mean an Alligator encore. :P

Having all the pre-sales at once and the servers get overloaded is part of the marketing scheme. Getting all the scalpers in there is too. Creates artificial demand and makes people think that these shows may actually sell out. Only real sell-outs are the boys themselves.

The Dead is one of the few bands still out there that does actually care (where and when they can) about the fans!! Been dealing with all things Dead for a long while!! We should consider ourselves lucky that the band cares enough to set up pre-sale events (lucky or not in the score aspect) and other perks. As far as FV ticket prices…if the price seems high….blame the venue (as they set the official price) not the band. The band is one of few that offer taper tix still and not only do they offer pre-sale tix, but they offer them at a discount. I bought tix from TicketMaster this simmer for the CT show the boys did with the Allman’s and I paid $20 in fees on top of the ticket price. The way I see things….the last Dead tour didn’t sell out in my neck of the woods. With that said….I just can’t see how the scalpers think they might get those crazy prices they are asking…especially with the economy the way it is. I get a happy little chuckle every time I think of the scalpers being offered phatty grilled cheese and “brownies” for trade. My advice is to keep trying…and keep checking…if come show time and you have no tix….go and see what is being offered around the show grounds….AND talk those scalpers down to below face value. ;-) May we all find our miracle!!! Have a grateful night!!

OK - so pre-sale was a cluster fu%k...but whats really disappointing is that I'll be at the show with all the negativity of some of the folks posting here. By reading through the posts it looks like more than half of the people complaining here GOT TICKETS! So what gives? Did music today come to your house and steal your CC number? Get over it. It's 2009. Tickets would be $120 if Jerry was here so PLEASE don't give me that "if Jerry was here" crap. PLEASE. I have an idea. If you bucked up and bought the tickets, let's all get together and have a good time. Remember that? Isn't that what was cool about the old days? I clearly (ok not SO clearly) remember having some of the best times of my life hours before the show began in miscellaneous parking lots around the east coast with tickets in my pocket that said 300+. It didn't BUG me. Those were the tickets I had that day. Some days they were better, but some days not. Why do so many people here feel they are owed floor seats or 100's seats? You want PERFECT sound? Go buy Dicks Picks #19, a Denon receiver, and a $300 pair of headphones. I promise it will blow your mind. BUT - if you wanna have a good time...stop your whining, do your best to get a FV ticket and stop by and say hi in the parking lot. I'll even fix you a grilled cheese. I promise. One final note: Warren is NOT Jerry obviously. His style is very different, BUT I hope no one was questioning his guitar prowess. That would be nothing short of ignorant. Smile. Smile. Smile. Please. Why did somebody label all these tapes with "mono sodium glutamate"?
