The long (and mostly short) of it: 4/12/78 (2 dvds) -- proshot, multi-camera video with excellent SBD audio (and aud patches between tunes while the video rolls). This is the complete show, in black & white, and while 95% is flawless, it does have its flaws including, unfortunately, the video and audio being way out of sync as Jerry does his Pete Townsend-style windmills during Truckin'. On the upside, everything is in sync during the drum solo featuring Mickey, Bill & yes, Jerry himself (and a little Steve Parish too). So that counts for something. 3/28/81 (2 dvds) -- And speaking of Pete Townsend... Proshot, multi-camera video with excellent SBD audio, complete show, in color, flawless throughout with particularly good closeups of Jerry's playing, for those of you want to steal some licks. Set lists available elsewhere. I'll include the technical source info when I send out the discs for those of you who are into that. I had absolutely nothing to do with either of these, other than downloading them as torrents from "The Trader's Den" -- so a big thanks to everyone over there. ENJOY!

The result is an excellent matrix, justifying the blending of two sources to breathe life back into a relatively unrecognized but excellent show. Check out these reviews from the Llama: "I have the soundboard version of this show and I must admit that it is clear but clinical. No Character. This audience version has the ambience that is lacking in the soundboard. Do yourself a favor and download both!" "You've heard the classics, now try this one! Recommended." -Dr. Flashback This is the first show of 29 played at Capital Centre, and Bill Graham starts off by letting the crowd know to stay out of the isles, probably concerned with the fire marshall, who I'm sure was not impressed by the firecrackers (M80s?) that were let off periodically during the show - the most loud and notable is during To Lay Me Down, the crowd in a very intimate space, an explosion even clearly loud on the SBD. Listener beware! The whole show is played well, from the gumption of Sugaree through the excellent Weather Report Suite (nice Keith); and the second set starts with a slow but funky He's Gone (Phil), a freaky Spanish Jam out of the "space" of a 1 verse Other One, and a rare Peggy-O (6th time played). Garcia takes a different approach throughout, both refreshing and daring. The band delivers on the crowd request for Casey Jones, and Phil sums it up at the end: "We really appreciate it folks, you don't know how much." Thanks to Jerry Moore for making the FOB AUD happen (see notes), Mark Cohen for the analog > DAT transfer, Noah Weiner for the DAT > SHN/CD; Teddy Goodbear for the SBD along with the rest of the Compendium crew, and Doug Johnson for uploading it to abgd. Enjoy! Best I was able to do was dicker with some total strangers who were sitting reasonably close, on the left side off the floor, if I remember. They weren't willing to trade seats, but WERE willing to try taping it themselves in exchange for a copy. So I crossed my fingers real hard, and handed over the rig. They weren't at all familiar with it, but I managed to squeeze in before the show and check in a couple of times. All things considered, they did a pretty decent job. Some artless level juggling, and overall levels lower than I would've run, but better than no tape or a rotten one. The taping the weird noise at intermission was a nicety I didn't think to mention, and they didn't bother with. IE, no L&L recording on my tapes... I haven't the foggiest who they were or what their names were. Never crossed paths again." <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Grateful Dead - July 31, 1974 Dillon Stadium - Hartford, CT Recording Info: SBD -> Master Reel (7inch @ 7.5ips 1/2 Track) -> Dat -> CD Transfer Info: CD -> EAC -> Samplitude Professional v7.02 -> FLAC (3 Discs Audio / 2 Discs FLAC) Transferred and Edited By Charlie Miller charliemiller87@earthlink.net February 9, 2006 Patch Info: Reel flip in Row Jimmy and WRS Intro patched with Bill Degen's AUD Unknown Mics -> Master Cassette -> Reel (7inch) -> Dat -> SHN Notes: -- This is shnid 1019 cleaned up and patched. -- Beginning of Scarlet is cut. I maintain a vining spreadsheet - and have signed up for 31 - received 30, with an average turnaround time of less than one day. Also, the last vine i signed up for was in mid to late 2008. (ratdog never showed up - it's has been lost forever). You may be confusing vines received with vines started - which would push that number up pretty high for me.So - i wouldn't be a vine slut - but a vine sugardaddy

a top five vine slut. I didn't realize I'd stooped so low. I'm havin' a hard time believin' I am signed up for 39 vines I haven't received yet. Now I need to do some checking. I need to move the seedier side of the vine for awhile instead. Anyone interested in Los Lobos or Hot Tuna? Mark, get some sleep tonight. A massive Hornsby vine. I know that there is a lot already on here, but I am sure there are shows that we haven't covered after he left the Dead and would just sit in. How about a guest spot vine--classic shows with guests (Branford, Duane, Beach Boys...etc). Maybe not even complete shows but a compilation. Just a thought from vine slut #3!

And it goes more quickly than you'd think. Yes, I do have a little more free time on my hands, and I've been catching up on Adult Swim. I can see how those Deadbase guys got sucked into this kind of stuff. sunshine-daydream, re: missing monsters - by missing I meant lost vines, not omitted shows. Keith's First Few Months; Autumn '72 pt. 1 September; Eurovine #4 US Branch; November '72 - all disappeared months ago. (the gig with Etta James sounds interesting though, loves me some Etta) erickat: Happy anniversary, looks like it's about a year that you've been here! That total vine number is the number of vines a viner is currently signed up for but hasn't received yet, not the total number the viner has *ever* signed up for. If it was I'd be up to over 130 completed + the ones I'm waiting on. In your case: you signed up for 31, received 30 so 31 - 30 = 1, which is what I show. I did note that I included the signup lists for the deceased vines (like the Ratdog vine) - I'll probably go back through and delete some of those, but maybe some of them will get restarted. I wasn't about to take the time to go through every post for every vine, I just found the most recent signup lists and started from there. I keep track of my own turnaround time, but I haven't calculated an average. Probably up to several days by now. I had a feeling that maybe people didn't realize how many vines they were signed up for, it kind of creeps up on you. Although, for example, fluffhead420 is near the top of the list now his number will start going down as the rate of vines he completes exceeds the rate of new vines he signs up for. There is probably some average "peak vine signup" number, where a steady-state is reached for a viner that signs up for all available vines. Looks like it might be in the mid 30's. The vine signup number I show may be a little high for some people, upon further review there are several where I've included vines that the viner may have in hand. I can get that info from a different spreadsheet, so for this one I only wanted to determine upcoming vines - however my data entry on the signup lists isn't consistent yet. I wish I had access to Access, now that the bulk data entry is done keeping things current isn't hard, and it would be trivial to generate reports like which vines a person is signed up for etc. I can extract that now but it takes a few minutes. If somebody wants a listing I'd be interested in quality checking my results. And the big caveat: the data comes from the postings in the forums, so GIGO. There's plenty of instances where a vine isn't posted as received until it's being sent out ("got this a few days ago, it's going out today"), or it is never posted as sent out ("got this today, it'll go out tomorrow"), or you don't see anything on a vine moving until it's magically skipped over a person. I've definitely hit the track hard and fast as a vine slut...and I can accept this as it makes me feel happy inside. ;) :) ;D "Loose Lucy, she was sore, says I know you don't want my love no more, yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!" Pabogoniagirl1, Ami, Melinda, emily-j, and Paps. At least two of them are still actively vining. There's a little more Yin in our Yang than you might think. And this discussion certainly isn't going to boost the ratings... And then there's the most wonderful Marye... "when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door"

Very nice viners, they're here all the time. Emily may even get to go to her first show in Chicago, if she can talk her folks into it. That's pretty cool, a whole new generation getting into their *grandparent's* music - I think she's in high school. Didn't realize all you *married* dudes paid attention to the demographics here in the vineyard. Me, I'm still looking for the "Natural Girl Singles Site" to find the mud hippie of my dreams! ********************************************* ********Will work for blank discs & postage******** *********************************************

Women just don’t tend to be the obsessive collectors that guys generally are. I’ll be honest - now it is vines. As a kid it was rocks and minerals, stamps, coins, insects, models, Matchbox cars (that must date me). As a teenager it became records. As an adult it has been books, journals and magazines, more books, Fillmore and Avalon postcards, records still and then CDs and now guitars and the newest is vines. OK out with it, I have admitted my obsessive collecting compulsions. What about yours? I suggest moving this topic over to Meet the Viners so we don’t clutter up this space any more. Hello fellow viners and friendsI just want to explain my withdrawing from vining for bit. I have gotten a not so grate diagnosis from the dr. and will be having surgery in a week or so. I feel that I may not be able to be responsible with the vines in a timely manner, so I am going through and updating the lists. This is a part of my life that means the world to me, so I will be back vining asap. I will still be around posting and, most likely tracking vines, living vicariously through you all. Just wanted you all to know how much you mean to me and to thank you for a beautiful life experience. Everything should be ok, I will be back. peace and love, pk

Here are 2 good shows from 1994 and 1995. I have talked to some heads who regard this period of the band as the pits. I have no plans to start an argument about that, but I generally like 1994 and 1995. Jerry’s voice sounds great in these shows, and there are no major lyric flubs that plague other shows during this period. This 1995 show is absolutely fantastic compared to other ’95 shows I have heard. There are great just-about flawless versions of Ship of Fools and Brokedown Palace that are worth getting, if for no other reason. The 1994 show has a flawless Terrapin. Help on the Way here is one of the best ‘90s versions I have heard. It is extremely tight, and you can hear the guitar chords. Vince does not have that sloppy keyboard stuff as heard in 1991 (i.e. Boston Garden 1991). Notes: 5 Audio CDs, seamless, DSB sources, excellent quality, the 1994 show I received has some songs combined together in the same track (see below) Boston Garden, Boston, MA (Saturday, 10/1/94) NOTES: DISC 1-Help on the Way/slipknot/Franklins Tower are combined as Track 1; Me & My Uncle/Big River combined as Track 4; DISC 2-- Scarlet Begonias/Fire on the Mountain combined as Track 1 DISC 1 Help on the Way -> Slipknot! -> Franklin's Tower Walkin' Blues Althea Me & My Uncle -> Big River Tom Thumb's Blues So Many Roads Promised Land DISC 2 (Set 2 Starts) Scarlet Begonias -> Fire on the Mountain Way to go Home Saint of Circumstance -> DISC 3 Terrapin -> Drums -> Space -> The Last Time -> Stella Blue -> One More Saturday Night E: Liberty RFK Stadium, Washington, D.C. (Sunday 6/25/95) Bruce Hornsby sat in on piano DISC 1 Shakedown Street Wang Dang Doodle Jack-A-Roe Mama Tried ->* Mexicali Blues* Loose Lucy Picasso Moon Box of Rain (Set 2 starts) Rain Sampson & Delilah Ship of Fools DISC 2 Truckin' -> Rollin' & Tumblin' Samba in the Rain -> Drums -> Space -> Wharf Rat -> Not Fade Away E: Brokedown Palace * Bobby on acoustic guitar

Here is a fun little vine for the audio/techno heads out there. There are 2 versions of the 3/28/73 show - one is a stereo matrix and the other is a DTS 5.1 surround matrix. A 32 minute Dark Star in surround sound; sweet. Be sure to read the text file on the DTS show because there are some specific equipment requirements for playback (although burning the discs is just like any other audio discs)The 3/31/73 show is a Bertha Board remaster of the original SBD files; also very nice. This vine comes on one data DVD so if you are conversion impaired you might want to wait for someone to volunteer to burn the audio discs before signing up. First person on the list, PM me with an addy. Enjoy! but I'll put it out there for you to comment on. what if we started a PKPotter vine of a get well card that we all add our 2 cents to & then on a pre-determined date, we send to him. What do you think? ************************************* Prototype *************************************** Note - Our friend PKPotter is going into the hospital soon, and we wanted to get everybody to sign this card, so he has something physical in his room to remind him of us - so .... if you sign up, you will receive the card - which will have instructions inside. Add your comments & signature / whatever - and simply follow the instructions. ************************************* Prototype *************************************** and the instructions could have PK's address - so at a predetermined point, it could be just short circuited & mailed to him - otherwise, send it to the next person, just like a vine & everybody add witty comments & whatnot.

Oh dude Erickat , that sounds like a most wonderfull idea !!! I`m definatley down with that ... I was thinking of somehow keeping him in the loop with the music too , I for one would be more than happy to burn him a copy of whichever particular vine and send it to him . as for his copy to keep .. but it would have to be somewhat organized , would`nt want him to get 3 or 4 copy`s of the same vines .. any ideas on that one ?? Peace & sunshine for our dear freind PK !! and for everyone else too ..

...encouraging you guys and all, but to just so there might be a little organization involved: Here is the list of vines *somebody* may have withdrawn from over the weekend (please don't get pissed at me *somebody*). *Somebody* stayed on the BCT/marye's vine, though - experienced severe withdrawal symptoms as you might imagine.
