Will any of the Dead be performing at the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love concert on September 2nd at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco?

What about a thread for us in Europe? To compare tips about interesting concerts (if there IS such a thing) for Deadheads here, or to moan about the lack of people who have even HEARD of the Dead over here, or to discuss how sad it is that we can not see any of these great concerts that you guys are talking about, or just so we fee somewhat less isolated. Was just an idea, Americans welcome too, of course, but would save through wading through other longer threads to find interesting and more local information.

I saw the addition in the 'we are the world' (ouch) section. cool, thankx. I don't even know if we having something like this here, but how about a discussion of the meanings of songs? while Dodd's work pretty much does this, (and does it damn well!) I think he basically deals with songs written by the band and/or Hunter or Barlow... (not sure) anyways, in the game show, I went off on a tangent about the meaning of Iko Iko and Dougles added to that, so it would be nice to have a space to talk about the meanings of songs. on the old dead.net there were a few pretty cool discussions going about Loser and Jack Straw; maybe a few others... peace. Think it might be fun to discuss which song appeals to us most personally-would be like our own personal anthem, and why. From lyrics, special time we first heard it, or for whatever reason. Will start-for me is definately The Wheel. Lyrics seem to sum up my life most accurately. Will tell why later, if anybody else would be interested in this topic besides me.

Gotta deal with a few geographic regions yet. Think I will skip Antarctica for now but the other continents should be duly represented.... But yeah, no shortage of lyric-related topics to discuss. Hold on...

Last night I dreamt that I was in a near deserted supermarket and as I wheeled my cart to the only open checkout I saw that Jerry was sitting behind the till with an acoustic guitar singing Brokedown Palace! I have another recurrent dream of seeing a fantastic GD show at an outdoor festival in a natural amphitheatre with a rainbow stage. I wake up convinced that I was really there, but as far as I know I never was!! Also Johnny G on Life After Dead talks about his first Dead Dream so how about a topic on Dreams of the Dead...could be fun!!

I would like to see a topic so we can discuss why Bob Weir and Mickey Hart are supporting musicFIRST as well as be able to talk about whether this helps or hurts the music industry (look under Supporting Artists and then the letter M to see Mickey and Bob's listing). For those not familiar with this issue, opponents claim that it will kill off all small broadcasters and netcasters (even non-profits) in the United States while proponents claim that artists deserve compensation for bringing in revenue to those who play their music. http://www.musicfirstcoalition.org/ -- Yes it's me, I'm the pride of Cucamonga, I can see golden forests in the sun.

Hi,My name is Anders....a guy, age 50, living in Denmark/Scandinavia. Love the music of The Grateful Dead....and been to 2 of their shows: 1981 , Copenhagen/Denmark & 1990, Berlin/Germany. Also I,ve been visting America twice...know some fantastic people there. BUT...what I,m about to ask You: Do You hope America one day gets a National Health Care System - like we have in Europe....OR do You prefer things as they are now ? Can tell You...nearly all people here in Denmark/Europe love our Nat. Healt Care Systems. We might pay a little more tax, due to this fact...BUT - in return, nobody NEVER has to worry about "what happens, should one get ill". Can just concentrate 100 per cent on getting better: and we never has to think about payng money to insurance-companies (insurance against sickness).... Saw Moores Film "Sicko"...think he is right, some of these "insurance-companies" that You have, MIGHT have a bigger interest in earning/saving money, than they have in giving their patient the best (and most costly) treatment ?? Have a nice Day in America. Greetings from Denmark, Anders

There used to be a spot on this sight where you posted some envelope art. I think it would be awsome and rad if you could put that back up, accompanied by all the envelopes you have. I like to see if any of mine are there I'm sure others would like to have a look see too

what about a topic which deals with the fact that there is an evident change of DH generations underway.there are rhe seniors who are coming into their 60s(or more) now, than the middle of the road who came on the bus late 70s and the new ones who never had the luck to see the GD because when jerry passed away they were like 5-10yrs. old.wow, its in fact allready the 3rd gen. of DH and the 1st to grow up only on canned music.i am sure that the folks of all these 3 groups might have alot of interesting stuff to tell one another..:-)(-:peace to all

I'm one of those 3rd generations. I was born in 1980, first listened to the GD in 92, got my 1st 2 CD's in 1993 which I think were a pretty popular buy among CD's for Dead fans. In the Dark and Skeletons From the Closet. I already had a musical love from listening to the GD in the short amount of time listening to them when Jerry died. I remember walking down the stairs half way to my mom doing her hair saying Jerry died this morning. She likes country music and only told me because she knew I loved the GD. I said no way, and walked back up to my room and cried. The breaker is my mom said you can see the Grateful Dead when you turn 15. I was happy. I had a very close cousin who had been the type of guy that not only goes show to show, he lived show to show. Well, anyways me and Jerry share birthdays (Aug. 1st) I turned 15 (in '95) and I was ready to find the next ticket. Seen that they were just in Chicago a few weeks ago at the time that July... Their last Venue. Days later after never finding out the next time they were going to come to the Chicago, Jerry ended up passing away on August 9th 1995 (we all know, but...) I just turned 15! Anyways at least I've seen the Dead, and to me the closest thing other than them... Dark Star Orchestra. I can count over 200 CD's in my GD collection, but that was all before 2002. I have about 2000 hours of live GD from just the computer and internet. I love the dead, and have come across many dead heads with the same knowledge that I do! I admit tho, I lack the experience! And the experience outweighs the songs, time a lifetime. I could get a copy of every show they ever played, and never get to feel, see, smell, hear, or even fathom what it was actually like to be there. That's why I love you! I love you all, good night... A dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago... ________________________ www.autoquoteresearch.com

U could call it the "tribe around the fire" !!!.the futures here an we are it..........Peace To you all out there :-)(-:

thats the oldest way tribes communicate together.at night with a great fire burnin, they sit around in a circle and the elders pass their experience to the young warriors, who then tell their own stories because they are young and strong and its on their shoulders to defend the tribe.every indigenous people do it like this.american indians, beduins.nomads in mongolia etc....thats the way the torch gets passed from one gen.to the other...yeah and the aboriginees sit around in a circle too..tellin stories about the dreamtime:-)(-:

hows about a 'song parody' section?? it is a little different from the poet's corner, I think; and lots of fun. I've done a few song parodies, and Ami just did a grate one. it would be cool to see them all in one place, and then, hopefully encourage others to let their inspiration flow. just an idear. peace.

not a problem, marye. I was away, too. as this board has grown and grown (my eyes groan) I really do not have time to search around, so I was just wondering. I kind of wanted all of those songs in one place. yeah, I was always the dude who INSISTED that each tape be returned to it's proper case, and that the songs be listed properly. you get my drift. ( -: it was there, the 'goffin' space before April; and I had even posted there before that, too. just spaced on it's (goofin space's) existence. peace.

MadonMDR has a great show to promote and gets a little carried away, and various people have pointed out, in varying ways, "Cool show. Enough already with the multi-posts." I think nature has taken its course here, no harm no foul. I also hope the show is a big success.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I was lucky enough to do an interview with Hal Kant a few years back for a Rex story on the Innocence Project. Very interesting guy and I really liked talking to him.
