    We tried
We tried as hard as we could to get everyone out from underneath that deck. We were hauling the wounded out on make shift stretchers made of tarps and whatever we could find. A saddening day for all of us.

    Goin' Down the Road
I stayed at the campground this night and was taking a little trip of my own in the back of my truck when the storm whipped through and the deck came down. Almost called this my last stop on tour, but something told me I didn't want this to be my last memory of the shows. Glad I went Further.

The letter "written" by the band, signed by them that basically said Quit Fuckin' Around. The gate crashers and violence. Letter said that for years the organization had done its best in the task of getting large numbers of people together pretty painlessly. God, did they do that. And if things did not settle down, they would be forced off the road. HUGE thunderstorm that night west of St L. We drove through it back to Columbia right about the time the deck at the camp ground around there came down and hurt a bunch of folks were standing under it to escape the storm. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

This was my first show as a Wharf rat ( heads in recovery ] . On a human anecodte , I am still a Wharfrat 12 years later [ no relapses hehe ] . I had been clean for 3 months , and my main objective was to see them In Riverport , since I lived in NE Iowa . I took a friend whom I had gotten into the band , and was my NA sponsor [ NA and GD at the same time jaja ] . We arrived as the band broke into the hot Stranger , that i can account on two DAT clones made with Nak 700s on the 14 th row . And another taper section Neuman ( i think ] recording . Live the show was great , and on tape the show is a great memory of that awesome summer night . The 1st advanced nicely . My first Peggy O [ id love to hear a board of it ] . Same thing , and a peppy rest of 1st set . All w a nice Childhoods end by Phil L Second set opens with a very hot Aiko . Then we go into an ejoyable Playin , which goes into my first Crazy fingers [ which in statistics was the last one we heard ] . Corrina follows , and Drumspace get things roolling for the post drums , which is my favorite > GDTRFB - Stones - NFA , and the kind BMR encore Please GD productions , shows like these could be part of a series of shows that are worthy of release ( edited or otherwise ] Thanks folks for a real good time = )

Unfortunately, Jer had hit rock-bottom at this point. Couldn't play a lick. The rest of the boys pretty much carried the gigs from 92-95. We left this show early and quite depressed.

I wonder what it must ve been like to hear GDTRFB at the Bonner springs 91 show , or some of the 1971 classic GDTRFB s . Just a comment w insight . When they broke out into that at Riverport , the place went f**n nuts . and then the Stones > NFA had the whole crowd in non stop fun . That BMR encore was great , as it was my first show as a Wharf rat . The Sunday Chicago show , was an incredible blast also . Unfortunately bought counterfeit tix for the saturday 7 / 8 , and for me and my friend Jenna [ from South bend ) was a huge bummer . But at least we had real ticx for Sunday s What a loing strange trip the Dead was . What a phenomenon of music they performed for our lucky heads and ears . Grateful to be alive and to be able to comment this , through the distance - from Chile ( South Amer ]

No tix for this one and all non-ticket holders were turned away on the road leading to the parking lot. That's why the campground was so packed. It started raining so everyone headed to the store. My friend and I were sitting on the the part of the deck where the cement met wood and luckily when the deck started to colapse she knew enough to push us both onto the cement part. We both ran down do help the trapped people...it was a pretty bad sight and lots of people were really hurt---i thought i heard one ended up dying in the hospital. Everything was so crazy and hectic after that, but I am pretty sure I heard BMR. Maybe they played it the following night or maybe we rushed to the show to let poeple know what had happened at the campground and I caught the encore

being from "the loo"...this was my last ride on the bus!! As we were leaving this night..I started crying like a baby. my friends were all "what is wrong with you?" Without blinking an eye I said "Jerry was saying goodbye to me in Muddy river!" I had tickets for the next night and Soldier Field. I gave them to friend who did not have tickets. In my heart, I could not bear to see them the following night. GRANTED, NOW I wish I could have taken my tickets back and gone. But, I truly felt like I had done all I could. I'd seen Jerry decline and it mad me sad. I made it my duty to get everybody I knew to see the band while they could. I am proud to say I got many on the bus from 1993 onward. Tell you folks what....1st show: June 21, 1991 changed my life forever. The bus came by and I got on feet 1st. I miss Jerry, the band, the music, the excitment leading up to the show..BUT, most of all.... I miss meeting all you fine souls who made each show that much more special! There is nothing like a grateful dead concert!!!! This show grabbed and pulled me in so much I cried. I've never had so much emotion rolling through me in my life. My Favorite Black Muddy River ever! No matter if you caught them back in the Haight or the 1970's/80's....ALL OF US are blessed to have even see it and them once!

As I remember...the lights were left on during the 2nd set (later to find out about the death threats to GAR)Corrinna became Bobby's Day Job...everyone hated it & it lasted forever...Bob played too much rockstar. The crowds were younger & 1st time I ever saw people wearing Ozzie Osborne T-Shirts,etc. to a Dead gig. St.Louis was fun & alot of fireworks in the lot & campgrounds since we'd just had Fourth Of July.

This was it for me, the vibe outside had got real bad and my wife was home about to have our first baby. Jerry had had a death threat that day it was scary. sadly we lost Jerry shortly after that. My daughter was born July 12th. I do regret not being at the last two shows. After his death I put the music away for a long time I would not even listen to the Dead. I did not realize till recently what I have missed. I was a Deadhead Thru and Thru and now I return to my tribe humbly and respectfully

Why is it that I remember Dire Wolf when I think about this show? Not on the set list... Was it because of "the letter"? We're we singing it as we headed to our seats or waiting for the show to begin or during intermission with the house lights up? Can't be it since the death threat wasn't mentioned in the letter. We knew something was wrong in that second set with the lights on. Didn't know about what went down in Deer Creek until we arrived in STL. Just the weirdest vibe both inside the show and in the lot. Were the house lights on because of the gate crashing? And that letter... "Dear Dead Heads: This is the way it looks to us from the stage: Your justly-renowned tolerance and compassion have set you up to be used. At Deer Creek, we watched many of you cheer on and help a thousand fools kick down the fence and break into the show. We can't play music and watch plywood flying around endangering people. The security and police whom those people endangered represent us, work for us -- think of them as us. You can't expect mellow security if you're throwing things at them. The saboteurs who did this can only do it if all Dead Heads allow them to. Your reputation is at stake. Don't you get it? Over the past thirty years we've come up with the fewest possible rules to make the difficult act of bringing tons of people together work well -- and a few thousand so-called Dead Heads ignore those simple rules and screw it up for you, us and everybody. We've never before had to cancel a show because of you. Think about it. If you don't have a ticket, don't come. This is real. This is first a music concert, not a free-for-all party. Secondly, don't vend. Vending attracts people without tickets. Many of the people without tickets have no responsibility or obligation to our scene. They don't give a shit. They act like idiots. They think it's just a party to get as trahed as possible at. We're all supposed to be about higher consciousness, not drunken stupidity. It's up to you as Dead Heads to educate these people, and to pressure them into acting like Dead Heads instead of maniacs. They can only get away with this crap if you let them. The old slogan is true: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Want to end the touring life of the Grateful Dead? Allow bottle-throwing gate crashers to keep on thinking they're cool anarchists instead of the creeps they are. Want to continue it? Listen to the rules, and pressure others to do so. A few more scenes like Sunday night, and we'll quite simply be unable to play. The spirit of the Grateful Dead is at stake, and we'll do what we have to do to protect it. And when you hear somebody say "Fuck you, we'll do what we want," remember something. That applies to us, too. Phil, Jerry, Bobby, Mickey, Billy and Vince"

thoroughly enjoyed listening to a SBD of this show. the first set was laid back and mellow and the second set was a finely played masterpiece. I think '95 is pretty awesome but also very sad as it is the final year. it ended too soon. hopefully some more SBD's of '95 will start circulating. if Halloween '84 did why not this?

Wow it's been so many years and I haven't thought about that night in a long time. That said I can recall everything that happened like it was yesterday. There was an amazing young woman who I would see over the years on tour. Basically we would bump into each other every now and then and when neither of us could get tickets for the show we would run around having a wonderful time together. That night we ran under the deck to stay dry from the rain. As we all know the deck came crashing down on us. We were in the center all the way against the building wall right by a door that went to the bottom level. Being next to the building wall saved us because the deck didn't come straight down. It pulled a foot or two away from the wall. We got banged up a little and a few cuts. Somehow the 2 of us found super human strength! We were able to rip the door out of it's frame and help people get to safety. I will never forget another young woman who had a giant wooden beam crushing her hip. We held her hand and tried to comfort her the best we could until the ambulance came and helped her. I will say this...with all the "bad behavior" that was going on at some of the venues when the deck fell everyone and I mean everyone did everything they could to help their fellow brother & sister. You saw people's hearts breaking for other's pain. I didn't see anyone step over anyone. Everyone stopped to help. After people did everything they could to keep helping. From food, drinks, clothes, and blankets. At that time in place we all had eaxh others backs and I still have that love with me today.
