Any recommendations for MP3 to WAV conversion software?? "Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space. It rainbow then exploded, left a bus stop in its place. The bus come by and I got on, thats when it all began. It was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land"

Sorry about that, fluff. It was LoneStarDarkStar. Looks like he mailed them out sometime after 5/19, Tommo received them, and that Tommo mailed it out after I did my research. Just a little lack of communication there. It had been 3 weeks since there was any apparent movement on that vine so I noted it. But all is well and that vine is continuing to spread.

I have already re-seeded More May 77. I will also re-seed one of MitD's stalled vines, Maples Pavillion 2/9/73 (a great show IMHO) and also Lewiston, Maine, 9/6/80, to get things started. Give me a few days to figure out who is next and to PM for addresses. "One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused, listen to the music play"

    Here is Derek's prior post.
thanks again and congratulations on the proper use of the word "perusal." After an exhaustive, and exhausting, perusal of all the Grateful Dead and JGB (and LOM, and Recon, etc) vines, but NOT vines for other bands or even the current incarnation of the boys, here is what I have: (1) For all the trouble we seem to be having, this is an AWESOME place. The MAJORITY of vines are either still alive or have died a natural death, i.e., the last person on the list received it and no one signed up after. My collection has grown by leaps and bounds because of the vineyard. Let's be grateful for what we have. It reminds me of the saying that democracy is the worst form of government, except for every other kind. Sure, we have problems, but all in all this may be the best place for Heads on the internet. (2) Communication is the key. Going through the vines, I noticed the lack of communication. It is difficult to figure out on some of them where the vine died. Post often, post when you receive the vine, post when you mail it out and to whom mailed it. (3) Although I initially disagreed with the recommendation, I now agree that we should PM the person after us, both to confirm they are still active and their address. (4) Emergencies happen. We need to be patient with that. Just let us know and we will be. As we all know, Hal has a family illness. He has a few vines and I am sure we all want him to take whatever time he needs. (5) As I said, sometimes it isn't clear, but when your name appears numerous times it is tough to give you the benefit of the doubt. For example, if 3 different people say they mailed you 3 different vines, and none of the vines turn up again, it is difficult to blame the mail (it DOES happen, but NOT to the same person that many times). (6) The bad guys. No doubt about these characters. They are the Bermuda Triangle of viners. DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MORE VINES UNTIL THEY CLEAR THINGS UP WITH THE COMMUNITY. Do not just send them a PM and ask if they are active; they have caused too many vines to disappear for that. They are vine killers. They have killed before, and they will kill again. (a) Chinacat503 appears to have killed at least 3 vines (Nov 72, Eurovines # 4 & # 5). (b) Markinthedark, once a great viner, appears to have absconded with at least 6 vines (KPFA, Maples 2/9/73, Flac Me Flac You, 12/27/77, Early Stuff Vol 1, 3 and Augusta 10/12/84); (c) gratefulmikes appears to have killed at least 8 vines (funiculi funicula, 93 by request, Legion of Mary, Winterland June 77, NYE 83, Summer 82, Greek 84 and LOM Mystery). NOTE THAT he is signed up to soon receive Europe 74 so heads up birdsong1969nj and Jimbo (unclear who has it right now)!!!! He may also have killed Red Rocks 9/8/83 (or Deadhead Ben never sent it to him) (d) Day Glo Louisville appears to have killed at least 4 vines (Eurovine Acoustic, Garcia/Saunders 73, March 28,31/73, Jerry solo 4/10/82). He is also an interesting person in the Garcia Party disappearance; (e) j.straw (NOT to be confused with jackstrawfromcolorado) seems to have disappeared with at least 5vines (Lewiston 9/6/80, Beacon 6/14/76, Fox 85, 3 from 82 and Hampton 89 reseed) (f) canyon critter seems to have killed at least 4 vines (Acid Test, 1985 vine, History Buffs, and Fillmore East 9/20/70); (g) PAPPYPGH appears to have killed at least 3 vines (Hampton/Harrisburg...84, 2/17/82, JGB 1977 Part 2, Silver Stadium 6/30/88), not to mention the Fall 79 Part 1.5 Rhino fiasco (either Pappy or Solix killed this one, tough to tell who). Pappy also should have recently received the Spring 88 parts 1 and 2 vines (Stephen in PA sent them on 5/28). Finally, he is up soon on More May 77 and JGB Keystone 12/21/79 (DON'T SEND THEM TO HIM!!!!) (7) Guys who have a little explaining to do. I am not sure here whether they have commited multiple vine slayings, or were just irepeatedly n the wrong place at the wrong time. These guys should explain to the community what happened before being welcomed back, but any old explanation will do. (a) Sakparadise is a suspect in at least 2 vine kills (Glen Falls 82, Fall 79 Part 2) and there are some questions about 2 other vines. Sakparadise posted on 4/29 that he would mail out the March 90 vine to Row Timmy. The vine has not been seen since. On 5/20 jackstrawfromcolorado, the good jack straw, posted the he would mail the Pink Floyd vine to sakparadise. That vine hasn't been seen since. It hasn't been that long for Pink Floyd (it was my vine, that is why I looked it up) so it may be ok, and Row Timmy has his issues so it may have been him on March 90. (b) Row Timmy was apparently involved in a couple of mysterious vine disappearances. March 90 discussed above and 3 from 75, which PKpotter said he mailed to Row Timmy on 9/12/08. (c) Brother Tom is suspected in 2 vine slayings. Solix said he mailed Cream Filling 73 to our holy friend. Brother Tom was the last person to receive Matrix Volume 1, and it wasn't until 2months later that anyone else signed up, but he doesn't seem to have passed it on. (d) Deadheadben seems to have slayed the infant Cleveland Convention Center 12/06/73, before it had much of a chance to travel the country. Either he or grateful mikes killed Red Rocks 9/8/83. And either he or Hard To Handle killed Sante Fe 83. (8) Guys who had minor hiccups [hopefully) (a) my friend Dave C was the last to have Early 69 (shoot, don’t know what volume this was, sorry) (posted 5/13) and should have received Early Stuff Vol 2 (unclejon posted on 5/20 that he mailed it out). Dave C posted that he had computer problems. I am sure he either sent these vines on and didn’t post (here, another call for communicating, post often) or is resolving his computer problems and will soon send them on. Ejjd is next on Early 69 and Jake R on Early Stuff Vol 2. (b) Darkstar1971 (aka Estimatedprophet 1971) rides the rails quite often. I think he is an engineer, the kind you think of when you are kid (a train engineer) but never meet. Hal posted on 3/19 that he mailed DarkStar1971 Fall 77 Part 2. No word since. DarkStar1971 was the last to have Orpheum 7/12/76, pisting on 4/20. Pomo1 is next for Orpheum. (9) Specific vines not mentioned above, many probably involved miscommunications. If you are involved here and can help resolve, please do. You don’t even need an excuse here, just a “I never got it” or “I sent it out” or even a “sorry” will suffice. (a) 3/28/81: Benny Jakes stalled this one for 3 months but eventually passed it on to On The Road Again, who apparently killed it. (b) Felt Forum 1971: greatfullygrateful was the last to post having it, said he had a family emergency, never posted having sent it on to Arkdeadhead. © Repatriation 1971: Fluffhead420 posted on 4/8/09. He was last in line. 3 weeks later Jake R and dpwstldeadfan signed up. No word on where this vine is. (d) Eurovine # 1: Dead Man Telling Tales posted on 4/20. He was last in line. Jake R and others signed up later. Now word on where this vine is. (e) Keith’s First Few Months: dpwstldeadfan posted on 5/6. Only Gr8tful Ted is signed up after. He may have received it and not posted. (f) Valentine’s Day: fluffhead420 posted on 3/9. He was last in line. Lord Monkey and Jake R signed up after. No word on where this vine is. (g) MSG 93 Part 2: Tommo posted on 3/24 that he sent it to Toddsnc. No word since. (h) Jai Alai 74: On 5/12 KingCargoJB posted that he mailed it to Emily J. Slimee is after her. No word since. (I) Northern New England Wish List: on 5/19 fluffhead420 said he would PM Tommo for his address. Estim8ed was after Tommo. No word. (j) 70 & 73: On ½ Estim8ed said he mailed it to Chasmo, who said he never received it. Probably lost in the mail. (k) BCT 86: on 4/13 ark deadhead posted that he would mail to Pkpotter. No word. (l) Little Bit of Jerry: on 4/14 Long Rifle posted that he had it. OneGratefulDad and Fleaflicker were next. No word. (m) 5 Garcia shows: on 5/21 cacthim hickory matt (or something like that) posted that he got them. Fleaflicker and Space Otter were next. No word. (n) Dead/NRPS 1970: on 5/5 birdsong1969nj said he would mail out to test4965. No word. (o) Pigpen Shotgun: on 5/8 Phat Moye said he would mail out to Jake R. Da roach was after that. No word. (p) Brent’s Last show video: lost in mail btwn gadeadhead and JimmyC (q) More May 77: on 5/28 Pomo1 posted he would reseed to Larry Here. PAPPY IS NEXT. LARRY HERE SKIP PAPPY!!!! ® More Mary: on 1/23, rambleinbearisgrateful posted that he mailed to Tommo. Stuman, then bearisgrateful were next. No word. Lost in mail? (s) Bill Graham Tribute: Playdead apparently killed. This vine was reseeded to the person after him. (t) Shoreline 91: on 12/24 Chasmo posted that he had it. ark deadhead was next. No word. Apparently Chasmo killed it. (u) merriweather 6/30/85: on 4/29 fluffhead420 posted that he PM’d OneGratefulDad for his address. No word. (v) Boston Tea Party 1969: on 5/11 Slimee posted having it. Dpwstldeadfan was next. No word. (10) I am too tired for final thoughts. All will be forgiven, except for that first group. I hope those that have disappeared with vines are ok, and are only AWOL here and not in reality. Others can figure out what to do next. I am not proofreading this so there are probably some spelling and grammatical mistakes. Vine on!!! "One watch by night, one watch by day If you get confused, listen to the music play"

I think we should do all the vine stalling discussions here. Feel free to copy and paste my detective work here, Pomo. I agree re: the reseeding, especially for SHN/FLAC. With WAV though, it's one more generation away from the original so it isn't ideal.

to re-seed some of the vines that have crashed. Should we re-post Dstache's list in this topic and people can try to solve the issues, whether by re-seeding or prompting people or however? In other words, do we need a separate "stalled vine" topic, or just do it here? I also believe that it would be appropriate for persons other than the original seeders to re-seed where feasible. The original seeders have already gone through the expense and time of planting, and others should help to get the vines re-growing. Just my opinion. Thanks again for everyone's input and effort. There are 464 profiles/users at deadnet at this very moment. Holy crap. The average (mean) way back a few weeks ago was like 10 to 20. I checked a few profiles, and all the one's I checked had been activated exactly 1 week ago +/- a few hours or a day. What in the world? Are they all here for the freebies? I have had more trouble accessing pages and logging in today. Is it a bandwith issue? We here at the super secret vineyard need to prepare for a population boom once folks start figuring out what we are up to. This could be mass chaos...;-) Look what happend to Dodge City in the late 1800s and urban sprawl today. :-)

I'm gonna do a 2-part JGB 76 vine (with the help of the first few people to sign up, for WAV), but I will wait until December, both because I am working a lot over the next couple weeks and because I'm certain Marye is very busy with the contest. Hold on for a little longer and it will be here. I don't think it is a great year, and there are some duds (early in the year the music is played TOOOO SLOWWWW), but there are plenty of VERY GOOD shows. The ones I will vine are worth getting excited about.

I have a mandolin (Yank Rachell model Harmony) with a backstage pass that reads StaffDawg eat Dawg 5-5-94 The Warfield. Jerry and David played there that night. Any of you there that night? Any Photos? This instrument has been an ongoing mystery to me since I purchased it 12 years ago. The great mando mystery. Any ideas would be helpfull. Thanx

Why does a SHN/FLAC source sometimes have an xxxxx ending (such as 81.01.01.sbd.miller.xxxxx)? Is xxxxx used when a number has not yet assigned? Did the person I received this show from download it as soon as it became available (or someone he got it from did)? Is the sbd.miller.xxxxx the EXACT same as the subsequent sbd.miller.11111? I tend to think that a number has not yet been assigned but the seeder wanted to get the source out there so they uploaded it without a number, and there are no changes in the xxxxx version and the subsequent numbered version. Thanks!

Dan Lampinski recorded the Who in 75. I have the show and both it and the sound quality are excellent. I think though that the show was still on my hard drive, and not yet burned onto DVD, when my last computer died. I'll check though.

Longrifle was asking me about re-seeding Phil's Free Sounboards Vines. I checked and all 3 parts were last seen with Ursa about 7 months ago. The issue with re-seeding these is that in total there are 12 DVD's with well over 40GB of music. That's kind of a tall order for a re-seed. Could anyone help me and better yet has anyone heard from Ursa? "It's got no signs or dividing line and very few rules to guide"

I used to live in Chicago and have a soft place for the windy city. More than that, this is the reason that I hang out with youse guys - to help a fellow soul in need of some music. I will send along the following: 4/17/72 11/17/73 11/20/73 9/16/78 10/30/83 and I thought it would be nice to throw in a Jerry show too JGB 8-29-87 3/29/68 3/30/68 4/21/69 11-8-69 9-20-70 4/8/72 4/14/72 4/17/72 3-26-73 4-2-73 6/9/73 6/10/73 9/24/73 9/26/73 10/23/73 10/25/73 10/27/73 10/29/73 10/30/73 11/01/73 11/14/73 11/17/73 11/20/73 6/16/74 10/19/74 6/14/76 6/15/76 2-26-77 5/5/77 5/7/77 5/17/77 6-7-77 6-8-77 6-9-77 1/31/78 5-16-78 7-7-78 7-8-78 9/16/78 11/13/78 11/20/78 11/29/79 6/20/80 6/19/80 3-2-81 3-3-81 10/11/83 10/12/83 10/30/83 7-6-84 7-7-84 8-16-87 10/08/89 10/09/89 JGB 8-29-87 7-6 & 7-7 1984 and a 8-16-87.....way to go all!!! JackStraw, I'm a Who fan and have worked for a few years now to try and find the best Who shows and would be willing to vine the Who if there is enough interest. Pete Townshend's talent often goes under appreciated I think. And who (!) can't help but love the manic drumming style of Keith? Even my 12 year old daughter loves Keith! Entwhistle too was a standout on bass - take a close listen sometime. And, Daltrey's vocals are classic - Talkin' bout my g-g-g-generation...! The other day I was watching clips of Monterey Pop and the Isle of Wight - the Who really were at the top of their game. "Who"se interested? Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck... would dig a Who vine! If it were anything like your Zep vine, it would be awesome! Live at Leeds, the Woodstock and Monterey tunes and the disc that accompanies Who's Next are all that I know (I haven't heard the Isle of Wight). Bring it UJ! " Where does the time go? "

I'm working on the Who vine - I hope to have it together by this weekend. I love putting a vine like this together because I get to go back and relisten to some of my favorite music. I hope y'all like it when ya' get it! IHowever, I'm experiencing a slight delay due to the need to take the kids to a premier of Harry Potter tomorrow in San Francisco. JackStraw nice job on Folsom Field 1989... "when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door"

Me friend thought it would be funny to dose me at the cincy show. Luckily My schedule was open. I later found out that it was some album cover or something. I'm sorry people but this stuff was weak compared to what we were used to in 1990. I was wondering if anyone knows about this weak stuff? Maybe i ruined myself. Maybe it wasnt LSD?Just wondering what they gave me. Most importantly the show was excellent!!

My 12 year old gave it a 8/10. It seemed a bit slow in parts as they were careful to follow the book. There was an embellishment or they could've done without. Overall, very enjoyable and they've set up the finale for next July quite nicely. "when life looks like easy street, there is danger at your door"

Went to see Furthur Sat night at Madison Square Garden. Only 31 years after seeing the boys there for the first time. It's certainly not the same, but I had a really terrific night. Stood near Bill Walton, great energy from the crowd, killer setlist, tight playing, Phil dropping bombs all night.... Funny story: Two girls were sitting next to me. They were young enough to my daughter. They were bitchin about the music all night. Suddenly the band plays the opening chords to Dark Star and i say "Well, you cant still be disappointed, they are going into Dark Star." They say Dark Star sucks and LEAVE!!! What a waste of 19th row tickets on two idiots! Of course, after Dark Star they missed St. Stephen, TOO. The 11, Death Don't have no Mercy, Franklin's!!!!!! What a set. It feels like the newbies go to be cool with no clue about anything else that goes on. Unfortunately, as you state, they are the ones who snatch up all the good tickets. "It's got no signs or dividing line and very few rules to guide"

I'm sure all of us who got cranky about the 1987 newbies are cracking up at the familiar tale. And yet I suspect a bunch of those folks who were completely clueless until the band played Touch of Grey are still with us! And the ones that aren't, too bad for them! From what I hear from those who were around in the earlier days, this is somewhat ongoing. I'm sure I made the more knowledgeable groan from time to time. It'll be interesting to see which of these first-timers stick around, and why. But yeah, this is especially aggravating when people who really do love the band have been shut out!

...all the years combine... Many people have seen this list developing in these pages over the past month and I thought that I'd take a minute to let everyone know that I'm Dan and that this list was developed out of my request on another forum here for some shows, since the circumstances of my life forced me to lose the recordings that I had and currently prevent me from acquiring any new ones via computer.I'll spare you the details, though I'm not ashamed of them(I'd relate them to anyone interested via PM), it's just not the point of this post. The point here is to publicly acknowledge and thank the kind spirit and generosity of the members here who heard my call and answered it, without condition or reservation of any kind. That's the spirit of the continuing thread of those who really hear the music, the "unbroken chain", as it were. The addresses on the packages that have arrived continue to reflect that indeed "we are everywhere". As I continue to receive shows from people, the importance of the intention of the people sending the music is as important as the music itself. So, at this time of thanksgiving, I give thanks for being part of the dead community for the last 38 years and thanks especially for all the members who have taken so much time to reach out to me in the last month or so. All your efforts have truly touched my heart. Thanks, Dan

Is there anyone here still signing up for vines that only does WAV and does not do SHN/FLAC? It seems to me that most of the WAVers have either dropped out of the Vineyard or converted. I don't want to bother wasting time burning WAV discs if they aren't needed. If WAVers are still here and signing up for vines, please post and I will be more than happy to continue including WAV cd's with most of my vines.

what happened to Birdsong1969NJ? I know he has been vining for awhile and i noticed that there are some newer vines that got sent to him and have been immobile since. I don't think he would have killed any considering he was active couple months back after not being around for couple months cause i sent him a vine.

once you go "flac," you never go back. I copy the flac dvds for archive storage and then burn CDRs off and on as time permits. I have not heard from birdsongNJ.

Signing up for many vines at once. First of all welcome to the vineyard! Second, from experience, it is really easy to get overwhelmed when 2-3 vines a day start hitting your mail box. Just a very friendly heads up! We have gone to great lengths to re-seed all the vines that have been lost in the recent months and it would be extremely sad to lose all these again. Also please remember that communication is our best tool here!! If issues arise just post so that we know the vines are still alive and where they are. Thanks and enjoy all the music!! Welcome to the Vineyard, a truly wonderful place. I echo JSFC's sentiments, but would add that it might be wise to send a pm before forwarding a vine. This helps to ensure that the next person is still active and checking his/her messages. Unfortunately, some people come to the site, sign up for a number of vines, and then disappear from the site with a load of vines never to be heard from again. Peace, "That path is for, your steps alone."

1 of the new guys here - actually first logged on to this site a couple years ago - just for the info at first. Been getting the dead.net emails for quite some time - but had to register to download the November goodies (thought I had already registered in the past). Well aware of the work that so many have put in and very appreciative! Thanks for the welcome. Wanted to pace myself - but the first few I signed up for seemed to be a month or more away - plus its kinda like the kid in the candy store, right. rest assured that I will be one of the responsible parties - and will post updates as has been asked of me. Thanks to all -zep. (just an online nickname based on my email addy)
