No, no, no, amigo, by tolerance I ment like physiological, like when you tripped three shows in a row, by the third night you needed 2, whilst the first night one was enough etc.
like when I was a pro I could go to my folks and eat dinner on fungus, but today I’d probably be afraid to leave the house. I’m not in practice, and I have no physical tolerance etc.
Weed especially is easy to build a tolerance, why I think DUI laws are unconstitutional. Not that there shouldn’t be any laws, just the ones they have are fucked, imho…no offense meant to anyone.

Too funny cause when I typed that I thought “I hope he gets what I’m saying” lol

Was able to listen to this whole show yesterday. Good show. I think the 21 Miller was good. Nice TMNS, Sugaree, Queen Jane. Good second set, with that Crazy Fingers, Playing, UJB, good Truckin Smokestack Lightning, nice Stella Blue.
And you guys were there, must have been fun. Hope they didn't harass you to much at this show PT Barnum.
Hey OB, did you slip in another 82 on us? I must have missed it.

This was more sticky/gooey and we just stuck a little on top.
Well, one of the first times I tried it, I’m sitting on the couch with the other half who is not a partier, has never burned etc. So I felt like oh boy, think I’m gonna have to lay down (mind you I’m sitting on the couch) but didn’t want to freak her out. It’s one thing to be too high, but quite another dealing with a nervous civilian at the same time lol.
So I had to say something or she’d freak out. Like, “I’m ok, just need a time out” lol.
Yeah, that stuff was too strong. Definitely a “it’s only a drug, just have to ride it out” moment for sure.
My grower guy at the time was passing out free grams. He actually snowboarded into this job site (he’s a programmer so only needed lap top in back pack) and started passing out free samples.
So next day or so after all the folks working there who had by now tried it all saying similar funny stuff. Luckily nobody had been driving.

10/9/89: it’s funny you mention that one. I was not tripping much in those days and hadn’t at those shows (unfortunately) but I remember coming out of the Hampton spaceship and feeling like I was tripping.
Maybe contact buzz from sharing Js, but I don’t think so…interesting. Maybe they sprayed us like Shoreline 90?

10/15/88: I’m behind again but I’ll put it on the list. I was at those shows and seem to recall having a good time but feeling the shows were sorta status quo? I’ll have to check them out! I know when I finally heard Miami years later I was kinda blown away, and the 15th does look good. The 16th might have been I was burnt by then so not feeling it?
I also was just hanging out in the back…
Thank god for the archive, I’ll have to check em out!
Man that was a SCENE there in St Pete’s! It was wild how there was all that empty land down there and they basically let us take over. I fondly recall they put in out door showers with no curtains/covers and how nice it was parting at my buddies van watching all the cute lil DH gals getting neck-ed without any hangups!
My buddy who was camped right by a shower had drove his Dark Blue van that had a giant turtle spare tire cover on it. Inside he had three large blue tanks of medipure gas! Which led to the ballon driving incident (already told so I won’t repeat)
I can still see it: lounging in the warm beautiful FLA afternoon sun with plenty of killer Js, cold frosties and balloons just watching the girls frolic in the shower! Ahhh, such memories, Dead dreams to another land!
    ,
Yeah, that trip was a gas, literally and figuratively. Three dead shows then a week of Golf and beach down in Naples.
One of those you needed a vacation after your vacation!

4/12/78: hit that a couple days ago. Definitely a good show, but perhaps slightly off for THAT tour?
I haven’t checked em all out yet, but still feel like 4/15/78 (DaP 37), both Fox, especially 4/11/78, and perhaps 4/16/78 are tough to beat? Would love to hear others thoughts about this tour.
Spring 78 has turned out to be a huge pleasant surprise for moi. With all complete Beatty’s in the vault you’d think there might be a box there, though the set lists are really repetitive.

Also gave 4/2/82 and 6/9/92 the quick and dirty at work treatment.
4/2/82 was decent, status quo for that tour which is really starting to grow on me!
And boy 6/9/92 is damn near as good as the previous night, even without the big set list.
That GOGD sure can pick em! Cool still finding good shows after 91.
    Have a great WE y’all!
Good to see ya and hear your doing better Gary.

Lots of folks there for Bob's birthday the next night and we stayed up all night long celebrating Bob and the Good old Grateful Dead. Stayed at a hotel right next to the venue the first night, the hyatt if I remember right, the 2nd night I stayed at a motel down the road and I partied with strangers all night at the pool until the security guard came out and said "it's 3 am, don't you guys ever go to sleep?" big fun.

When I said Shoreline 5/10/91, I meant the whole run, three shows. Aren't we doing three show runs in a single day?

I'm quite sure Brewer can keep up.

At least until we run out of three show runs. Then we move on to four show runs.

I cannot compete with a Moose. They look nice and peaceful, but like a hippo.. once you get too close they are mean as hell. Beware the Moose. Quite the cool story, Oro. I love Moose. The first time I stumbled into Jackson Hole.. I heard dead music coming from this bar, so the three of us ventured.. there was a dead cover band playing in the Mangy Moose. Pure coincidence, a hand grabbed me on my shoulder and it was a good friend from college that didn't finish and went out West to live.. This was ~30+ years ago and we were on a climbing trip.. we stayed up late, woke up at 4:00 anyway and climbed the middle Teton in the morning, getting back to a car at the bottom at 10:00 pm with a dead battery. ..but it was a stick, so we push started and found a place open that sold burritos and beer to finish the night.

So I have a soft spot for Moose's. My friend, Marty, an avid deadhead styled us for the weekend. I have seen Moose perhaps a dozen times, but that's the best Moose story I have in me.

How’s bout y’all turn me on to some 77 I haven’t heard.....so probably anything that’s not an official release.....OR!
Perhaps the whole show from 5/22/77 DP 3.....never heard the whole show in sequence etc, OR???.....
I have about 15 minutes to download, so chop chop, lol, just kidding!

EDIT: DV, born in Conn, 30+ years on NYS west coast, rest in CO...
But I’ve been to 46 states, including the great state of Miny- Soda....did a gig at the caboose! Big fun.

I run the server for Dead.net, and was at work when Jim exploded my head with his "three shows per day" comment. What's left of my brains flew into the works and gummed it up pretty good.

Oro--The Cabooze? No way. What was your band's name? I used to practically LIVE at the Cabooze back in the day . . .

Speaking of live music, Vikes, are you going to Utepils this weekend for all the socially-distanced, live Dylan/Dead music? I'll be there Saturday if you want to meet in person.

Caboooze, must of been winter/spring of 96?
Was doing Merch on Band Tour. Remember Danko couldn’t get enough of the ribs, lol.
Stayed downtown somewhere? Lots of glass walkways and I believe the hotel accessed a mall?
Being on tour and years ago its mostly a blur, but remember everything was great until the Band, probably Levon, suddenly ended the show, which unfortunately they would do occasionally in those days, and the crowd was not happy! Lol.

Another good Moose story: so my old work partner and I are up working in Mountain Star, another private development on the other side of the valley from Beaver Creek, (sick views) and we step outside to burn one on the back patio. All of a sudden a big Cow Moose comes around the house walking down the sidewalk right towards us! Luckily she wasn’t in a hurry so we just stepped inside and watched her graze from less than 10 feet. Indescribable being that close to a big wild animal like that. It amazes me more folks don’t get stomped as they hang out a lot right in Vail by the river a lot and the tourons always try to get too close... you do not want to piss off a Moose!

NET GLITCH; yeah that was weird last night. Tried posting here twice (reason for 2 below) and nothing...went to DaP 34 board and got to post, but when I tried to edit, nothing.....today of course all my nonsense is posted, lol....
Here I was thinking I got banned or something....glad it wasn’t just me!

Ok, on to the one and only Alahambra. Wish they would of worked that out and played it!

Hey Deadheadbrewer,

Unfortunately, no I wouldn't be heading over to that event, but it sounds like fun.

Let us know how it goes, thanks man!

I didn't know you were talking about THE Band!

I had tickets to see them at the Cabooze in early '94(?). The the show was cancelled, and then I moved to Colorado for four years shortly thereafter.

So you experienced the Saint Paul/Minneapolis skyway system. Those were built so that we don't have to walk outside in the winter! :) There are tunnels all over underneath the U of MN campus for the same reason.

I know a good many of you totally HATE mp3 by the vicious PM's threats I get telling me to watch my digital collection's back! :-)

To those that use mp3 regularly on a dos based computer.

When you open a folder, say, Jerry's Greatest Hits. When the folder opens, bam, all the file names are there AND the mp3 info. This happens in about a millisecond. BUT, sometimes you open a folder and bam, the files names instantly appear, but the mp3 info can take 20 seconds to fill in AND it usually doesn't happen in file name order.

I have investigated this for a while, maybe have an answer, might want more insight.

I have noticed that WHERE the mp3 header record is written matters. "Quick" filling tags have a header record location less than 8,000. "Slow" filling,,, seem to be in the 10 million mark.

To me this suggest WHEN the record is written to the file. If you assemble all the info before writing and know the spec, you can write early in the file. If you write music and assemble info while writing the writing of header will be at end of file (which is why they don't open up in filename order, I think they are opening in file length order)

Any programmers out there who KNOW?

Thanks to all, sorry for the non dead question.

BUT THIS COULD EFFECT US ALL!!!!!

My cousin worked a long time for NFA graphics before moving to Boulder and opening Encore Embroidery. They always needed reliable road help so my cousin threw me some work every now and again (mostly in or between collage and grad school).
I mostly worked with the 90s version of The Band and Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. I did Further Festival 96 from Pittsburg on till the end in Phoenix I believe it was? Which was grueling! Also Woodstock 94, and though I didn’t work at 7/8&9/95, we did get in via our connections and we’re able to stand onstage for the Bands sets. Of course as soon as they finished they shooed us off. Cool part was everyone but JG was onstage checking out the Band, with Weir literally standing right behind us on stage right. Didn’t talk to him though as the crew didn’t seem to thrilled with all these Band folks on THEIR stage to begin with, so didn’t want to take a chance riling anybody up etc...
My cousin did tons of Dead shows over the years and did get to hang out many times, so has some good stories.

Great show, but what did you all expect, it is 77!

First show since San Diego and you can hear the changes. Really like the Sugaree, it is different and flows nicely. First Scarlet-Fire. Man, does this let loose soon after.
First and last Terrapin Flyer? Pretty cool. Love the ULB finish. SBD is not the best I have heard but it is solid. Maybe a B+ to A-.

More 77 for tomorrow?? I was hoping we would continue on with that last night at Shoreline in May 91. Is that the 5/12/91 show?
Either way, we can't lose.

That is cool stuff Oroborous, sounds like you got to see and do some fun stuff music wise.

By the way, I am looking for a physical copy of the 91 30 trips show if anyone out there had any extras. I have a copy, but really need the real thing now.

Be well folks.

Yes awesome boards are on archive..... I was a stage ahead of you, I was starting grad school the next month!!! I hear you about the 88 show quality!!! The summer it never rained!!!!! bob t

That’s a sweet run of shows for sure.

Quality SBDs = nice summer time pick.

Plus a 31 year anniversary to boot.

It’s nice to spend a few days on those ;)

Some great reviews in the taper’s compendium that make nice liner note material as well.

Good stuff!

89 was a great year for Alpine Valley.

They know they have to do something about these shows... eventually. I'd like to see video/audio releases of the whole run, but perhaps I am in the minority.

So today's pick is the whole three show '89 run? Just want to get this right so Brewer can start on this nice and early.
I like this three run show per day plan. It's working out quite nicely.

Scooby roooooo! Woof, woof, woof! So all three today.....just kidding!
Yeah, why the hell aren’t these out? Actually though, I think I’d prefer a fall box, but these would be a close second.
You’d think they would have run Downhill from Here for SS tonight but so far Dave hasn’t ever gone the anniversary route with anything, except the 50th releases.

So a little story, sorry, probably told in the past?
I went with my cousin Pumas but we could only catch the first 2 shows as he had to be to his recently new respectable upstanding like job. So we go in his brand spanking new Pontiac grand am I think it was (Me driving because I was the driver in those days) .....and our plan was to go commando, no not that, get your head outta the gutter! Meaning no tents or nothing besides basic essentials. Probably toiletries (sorry, never was into the whole no bathing thing), a large cooler, BEER, duh!, probably some vitamins and basic breakfast stuff and some snacks, rain gear and some clothes, oh yeah, and party favors, but not sure there comparatively was much of that as he didn’t do much anymore and I was cutting waaaayyyy back in those days...(I’m sure I still had more than enough). That may still sound like a lot of stuff for some folks, but compared to what all I had in my truck of the big 73 LTD back in 87, this was nothing! (Including my golf clubs which literally kept me out of jail that year!), but I digress..
Anyway, the second day we decide to go eat and find a hose to rinse off etc and so as we’re leaving we’re stopped at the entrance behind this tiny car just packed with heads, like they were literally sticking out the windows, the sun roof, and someone was in the trunk! Oh, and to set the stage: there were donut eaters hanging everywhere by this entrance, and occasionally one would direct traffic....so this gal try’s to pull out a few times but no go. Meanwhile the cops are laughing and checking these clowns out. Us, were just sitting there waiting for these idiots to pull the fug out.....so finally she starts to pull out, but then abruptly stops then backs up again?? Whaaaa? Then, next chance she gets she guns it only she’s still in reverse!...........BAAAMMM......right into my cousins new car, Doooaaahhh!
Now, as the cops put down their coffee and Bismarck’s, and start to come over, several things are going through this ole boys head: shit, do I still have drugs in my pocket?..., am I already legally intoxicated, do I look like it etc.....
Poor Pumas, didn’t say too much (he usually doesn’t that’s partially why we call him Pumas), but you can tell he’s pissed and flipping out inside. Well tragedy was narrowly averted once again as the cops told us both to get outta the way and then proceeded to go to town on the poor freaks in the clown car, though even the cops were laughing at how many people piled out. They totally left us alone, Pumas did a quick info swap with the gal, luckily only minor superficial damage to his car, and we were outta there relatively quick. The other car not so good....
As we were leaving they were starting to search their car and line em all up.......
I don’t know what it was about Alpine, but almost every time I went, something crazy, spontaneous, and potentially liberty suspending would occur to me. But just as unusual was how tragedy was averted and your boy stayed free. But those are stories for another time....
So 7/17/89 today sounds awesome for a Friday, oh, and how’s bout that 3/18/77 pick yesterday, “huh, huh, who wants a Fresca?” Only had background listening going on, but yeah, neat little show. Y’all hit the high points so I won’t, except to say how much I wish they would of worked up that Alhambra bridge into the song. It sounded like Phil and the drummers were raring to go, and Bob follows, but JG obviously didn’t want to really go there so didn’t! I’m sure that’s a tough passage for him to play, but still, sigh, yet another of the most cool things they did in the studio, but not so much, or ever, live....a good portion of Blues For Allah album comes to mind! Well, glad y’all enjoyed that one. Doesn’t seem to show up on the radar. Which given it follows Cow Palace and Swing, and has to compete with the rest of the auspicious year is not surprising. Ok, have to git er done, but at least I’ll have some killer 89 to lighten the load,
Ciao

Ok I'm Biased since i was there.... I'm already on the Uncle John's Band on set II.... First set makes me wish that they didn't drop Built to Last and When Push Comes to Shove so fast.... Me and My Uncle into Cumberland.... extra bonus... I'll stop there since I will say all the songs were good, and I said I wasn't going to be biased. 10 Song first set, 5 songs before drums..... 4 songs after space and 2 encores........ they seemed in no hurry (A little different the next night on 7/18/89).... Looking forward to 7/8/90 concert tonight!!!! Bob t

....been waaaaaay too long since i've checked out this show. It's a keeper.
Also, shipping notice for GarciaLive 14 just hit my inbox.

Great call Bob t and yes the SBD is awesome. It is great and brings backs tons of memories. How about that Cumberland? Just finished the first set. Man, can we go back?

Great stuff Oroborous!

A meager five shows. Apparently it's Mrs. Brewers favorite year. Seems reasonable to me.

Edit: I thought we did all three Alpine shows yesterday.

Off the top of my head, Alpine Valley 1989.... Deer Creek 1990, and Selland Arena 1974... P.S. The 6/10/73 RFK show was on Sirius today... started at noon and was still on at 4!!!!! Bob t

Also my favorite Desolation Row, with Jerry hitting back ups at the perfect time!!! Good Althea and Sugaree also... Rained the whole day on the 19th!!!!!! bob t

I cheated and did Downhill from Here DVD on Friday night, then played VV 1 DVD.
Yesterday did first listen of WMD/2/21 etc,
So though the natural thing would be all in on Alpine...I think I’m going to get bogged down with this release, a few more good spins of 34 and then 35. But that’s at home, at work I’ll be looking forward to more off the grid shows from the archive etc, or what ever you nice folks decide...
So, yeah, I’ve always felt Alpine 89 and 7/17 especially were personal top picks, but haven’t heard in a while...probably since last year lol, so was surprisingly blown away, again, at just how great this show is! The whole weekend really deserves some kind of upgraded release. And like brother Hendrix freak with fall 72, i ain’t shuttin’ up about fall 89 until it happens.....more killer multi-track anyone?
Ok, time to stir the pot, what do you think is better: a good 2 track Beatty board, or a multi-track of other origins....answer....a multi-track Beatty 😉 (cue rim shot)

Let's finish this out with the wonderful 7/19/89! Thanks for the memories.
And Vguy are you buying brunch?
Yes, okay should have been bunch.

Oroborous, yes, there are tons of great multi track shows left and would love to see more fall 89 released. We have some. After listening to these great summer 89 shows, man, let's get these out.

I haven’t been keeping up with the daily picks, but I did just jump onboard today’s fine selection and started playing the 7-19-89 dvd-r.
I was able to get Set 2 on VHS in the late 90’s, and it was grainy but a great companion to Downhill From Here.
7-17-89 was my second show but like a foolish youngster I didn’t know that I was supposed to go every show in a run.

I have sort of given up hope for 2020. 2021 anyone?

Missed out on today's pick, which saddens me somewhat. But we did get an ok Desolation Row last week, so that sort of balances things out. Had a great day, which adds just enough yang to counter the ying.

I guess that's the best we can do somedays, which is exactly just good enough to make the world spin.
